Javier LeClerc's 997 Turbo

This Carrera Turbo is more intense than meets the eye. Javier upgraded the car with EVOMS tuning, then had us lightly tint the tails and paint the lower valences and skirts. Soon to come is a GT3 wing.

Phil McKay's APR Stg2+ GTI

Phil's GTI was tagged by a large rearview mirror that fell off of a tractor trailer at highway speeds. His lower grille was crushed and his hood got a little dinged up, so it was a perfect opportunity to get some custom paint work!

When Phil dropped the car off he handed me the keys, named his budget, and said "You have full creative control of this paint job". Right then and there I knew I was going to have some fun with this one. We looked at some of the design cues on the car - brushed aluminum interior trim, machined face wheels, the detailed brightwork in the headlamps - and decided to continue with that theme. The paint scheme was inspired by the look of the VW Concepts of late (namely the R-GTI, R-GT Jetta and R-line Passat). Phil approved the idea and off we went!

The brushed metal look was achieved by using Alsa Ghost Chrome paint over a base color and dragging a sanding pad across the product. All lines were laid freehand.

Ken Bournival's MkV Rabbit

Ken's Rabbit got a nice facelift thanks to the addition of painted R32 side skirts, a Euro spec Jetta front, and a two-tone hood and grille with VW White Gold (AKA Gold Leaf). More pics to come!

The Tilsons' A4 Cabriolet

Bryan and Krystal Tilson wre thinking about selling this car until it was hailed on. They initally wanted the hood fixed so they could get rid of it, but they realized the car hadn't seen nearly it's full potential so they decided to go for a respray, wheels, suspension, and more.

The bodywork was done days before the annual Eureka Springs Rally, and we coated the entire car in four coats of House of Kolor Black Ko-Seal. Rolling on new Privat Netz with the new rat look, the Tilsons showed up in Arkansas and surprised everyone. The new look got lots of comments, and was the object of many pictures.

It's a good thing we didn't paint the car over the winter, as it was rear ended by a cop during a snow storm and took on a couple other dings as well. We worked the rear bumper damage, went back over the body with a fine toothed comb, and - 'voila! - layed down a few coats of Porsche Macadamia Brown. Much, much, better.

Don Peery's '62 MG-A

Don is an avid MG enthusiast, owning no fewer than fifteen of the little cars. Two of the 15 cars are relatively early examples of the breed - "A" bodies.

This particular car has been apart for years. Don completed the frame restoration some time ago but the body had been worked as far as his skills (or patience) would allow, so it sat untouched, waiting for someone else to make it shiny.

I met Don at our annual Open House in February, and by March the MG was in the bay at Spraywerkz. The car didn't need too much in the way of body work really - a little massaging on certain areas and a couple good block sessions - but it did need paint. For this, Don chose to go with a factory gray color. MG called this color Dove Gray, and it's a little polarizing. Some really like it, others just ask "why is the primer is so shiny?". We elected to use DuPont Chromasystem base/clear with just a tad of "factory-look" orangepeel. After all, you don't want something like this to look over restored!

With the paint sprayed and polished, the little MG went home piece-by-piece. As Don reassembles the car we'll keep updating here, as this is going to be a beautiful little machine.

Joel Hammond's MkIII GTI VR6

After seeing some of our past projects in person, Joel decided he trusted us enough to bring his beloved MkIII in for some rust treatment. The previous owner had cut the rear arches to allow for tire clearance. This hack job, coupled with the many Canadian winters the car's seen, created quite an issue. Cancer was even bubbling up all around the hatch and in some other areas.

As always, we did everything we could to keep this car from rusting again in the future. The bumpers were overhauled and tag holes filled, we fixed the common Oklahoma hail damage then we resprayed the shell in a fresh coat of Standox Flash Red and DuPont ChromaClear. During the car's stay Joel also fitted a set of polished 17" Audi Fat-5's and a new deep front lip.

Bob Ederer's E30 Racer

Bob's little E30 has seen many itinerations - everything from stock, to SCCA racer, and now stripped and rebuilt into a full-on BMW Club Racer.

Bob is a pretty hands-on guy, and he has done most of the work on the car including a full cage and lots of other fabrication. A full mod list is to come, but for now let's just say Bob spared no expense building the car: Tilton brake cylinders, Wilwood binders and rotors, a bored S52 motor, massive Enkei 18x9.5 wheels with Yokohama Advan slicks, fully adjustable race suspension... the list goes on and on...

When it came to the cosmetic changes, Bob handed the car over to us for some massaging and paint. Having already procured the fiberglass M-look widebody, a trial fitment revealed we'd need lots more clearance for those massive tires. Bob came up with a set of 'glass flares from a Nissan Z-car, and after some cutting and fitting we finally came up with a look that pleased Bob's eye and still cleared the meats. We glassed the extensions on and plan to flare the quarters to match the flared Kevlar side skirts.

Kevlar front fenders, fiberglass doors and dash, a carbon fiber hood (with a custom molded-in scoop), and Lexan windows help to keep weight down. Paint will be a flowing, 3-color scheme set to accentuate the car's broad shoulders. Keep an eye on this project, as things are moving fast. Bob plans to have the 3-series on the track by September 20.

TJ Jones' MkIV Jetta

Yet another Texas 'dub! TJ brought his already-incredible Jetta to us for some killer upgrades. Most notably, shaved repeater markers and a Black Magic Pearl two-tone respray with a painted red break stripe. The engine covers are being shaved, the tails were color matched (yep), and we're adding a rear window diffuser. The Dubtechnik front bumper was also overhauled and resprayed and other repairs were made here and there.

TJ even went as far as to swap the wheels and have the intercooler plumbing powdercoated in Silver Vain to match the new paint scheme. It's all looking very sharp.

UPDATE 9/1/2007: The updated pics show the newest addition to the car: a molded GLI rear lip with a second exhaust outlet. TJ deserves lots of credit for coming up with the idea of doing this mod - it looks like something straight out of the VW design labs! The painted and shaved engine covers can also be seen in the pics now.

UPDATE 10/15/07: She's back from Texas for trip number three!

This time around we'll be replacing the broken front bumper (his tire store found out the hard way how low the cars sits). TJ made the quick decision to use a Votex front fascia rather than another Dubtechnik piece, but we agreed that it would need a rubstrip to go with the rear and side theme. The solution? Carve up a brand new Votex and stock bumper, then mold the rubstrip channel in!

To complete this new OEM-plus theme we'll be replacing the M3-look sideskirts with Dubtechnik's awesome new GLI replica skirts. The wheels have also been swapped out for OE units - MkV GTI/GLI Hufweisens - with custom paint. A full-leather R32 interior replaces the GLI Recaros.

Probably 95% of the parts on this car are now OEM - albeit modified a little here and there - making the car that much more impressive.

Mike Carlson's MkI Scirocco

It's another Kansas City Scirocco! And it's just as beautiful as the last one! Mike is a member of KCH2O VW club in Kansas City and a friend of Rob Romine, the owner of the black Rocco listed here.

Mike bought the car back in April from a Minnesota owner, and although it has some rust (naturally), the majority of the paint was nice and the interior is MINT. Open the door on this car and it's easy to picture yourself back in 1980 on a VW showroom floor.

Unfotunately there was some hidden (and some not-so-hidden) cancer. Upon drop-off, we poked a screwdriver into some small rust bubbles on the driver's door. What Mike thought to be a paint issue turned out to be a full-fledged foot-long rust hole forming from the backside! The fenders had some rust behind the front tires... but in the removal process they simply disintegrated! Mike somehow sourced an NOS pair hanging on a wall in South Carolina and a good samaritan picked them up and shipped them to Spraywerkz for him.

The rear corners and apron were almost completely replaced, along with much of the rockers and pinch welds. The roof had been caved back in 1980 while on the dealer lot, and that repair had obviously failed. The roof was completely stripped down and reworked. Every bit of rust on this car was fixed - right down to the slight surface rust under the hood and in the jambs.

Much more work was completed prior to the respray in factory Alpine White, and the crown jewel was a brand-new vinyl headliner by Mr. and Mrs. Romine. As you can see by the finished pictures in this album, she's certainly worthy of the money and time Mike is putting into her... and she'll be around for another 28 years for everyone to enjoy.

Colter Morgan's JTI

Colter's MkIV VR6 GTI with Jetta front end swap was completed in the fall of '07, but after being back in Colter's posession for just three days, his local VW dealership destroyed the molded Dubtechnik side skirts on both sides by attempting to lift the car.

As of Feb. '08 the JTI was now back at Spraywerkz for repairs, new side skirts and rear bumper, and a new take on the hood and front bumper paint. New wheels are now installed, and the car should be at Hot Water Blast in Houston for it's long awaited debut.

Most of the shaving and the boser was done before coming to us for pulled fenders, pulled and shaved bumpers and custom paint. There's so much bodywork on this car it's hard to say where to begin... so we'll let the pictures do the talking.

St.Clair's Matchstick VR6 GTI

Jason St.Clair loves his car. There aren't many people out there who - no matter how many times they crub their wheels or break parts - love their car unconditionally. St.Clair is one of those people.

An example of Jason's luck? He had just lowered the car with 20th AE GTI springs and added the RS4 rep wheels when he slid into a curb (Oklahoma ice storms are no fun) and destroyed suspension, two wheels, and front valence. Despite being flustered, he looked at it as an opportunity to upgrade!

We convinced Jason to go with the OEM-plus theme... more specifically using 20th Anniversary parts to create a Matchstick Red 20th. So far so good. Jason has repaired all the damage, replaced the wheels and tires, and of course added the 20th valences and skirts along with an overhaul of the dinged and chipped bumpers. Since St.Clair is a part-time employee at Spraywerkz, he did much of the work himself.

For sake of performance, Jason bolted on a Magnaflow 2.5" exhaust, CAI, and got the ECU reflashed with Unitronic software. Future plans include a lower stance and more "OEM+" goodness. Just more reasons to love this car... no matter how many clutches and starters he might burn up.

Gary Garland's E30 BMW 325

Gary found us the same way many other people do... he was just driving through the neighborhood and saw a little shop surrounded by a bunch of neat cars. Coincidentially Gary was in the market for a paintjob, so he stopped in for a visit and after shopping around, returned to schedule a complete paintjob the next day.

Although he was a little skeptical about spending so much money on a "little old BMW", it didn't take much to convince him that the E30 is no ordinary beater! This car in particular was especially deserving of some love. Gary purchased the car a few months ago as a one-owner from a little old lady in Texas. The E30 has just 70,000 original miles, and the interior is in beautiful shape. The only issues were obvious: the Texas sun had eaten away at the clear coat and someone had bumped into the passenger door, caving it in almost completely.

Gary knew he wanted to make the car look a little more classy and modern, so we smoothed and painted the bumper plastics body color along with the bumpers (which were semi-shiney aluminum), mirrors, cowl vents, and door handles.. He also ordered a Racing Dynamics front air dam, which adds a sporty look to the otherwise basic shape.

After pulling the door damage (over 100 spot pins used!!!), the entire car was primed, blocked, and sealed before being sprayed in the original gray color. Of course we had to do something "custom" with the paint - even if it was just something small - so I insisted the car wouldn't leave without tinting the lamps and rear badge. He's just window tint and a set of wheels away from a completely new look. Money well spent, Gary!

Bryan Tilson's 20th AE GTI

When Bryan's car came to us it had a busted-up Zender front bumper, vinyl stickers, and a faded out carbon fiber hood. Last year we transformed the car with new parts and black contrasting paint. In March the car returned for clean-shaven sides and a fresh coat of Lamborghini-pearled Imola Yellow. Finally, the audio system was touched with some of the "Lambo Imola" and the HP Perfect Ten wheels were refinished in black (later, the wheels were replaced with the 19x9 and 19x10 Porsche rollers).

In the car's debut show, Import Face Off 2007, Bryan took home Best Euro, beating out many beautiful VWs, Audis, and BMWs for the honor. Although this car has moved on to a new owner thousands of miles away, it will remain in our memories as one of the more polarizing and controversial euro autos in the Central VW community.

Rob Romine's Supercharged 16v Scirocco

Rob's Rocco is his pride and joy - and with good reason. She was once a beautiful jaw-dropper... then she decided to jettison from a moving tow dolly and lost a battle with the rear end of a Ford LTD (read: tank).

After repairing most of the damage, Rob drove her 300 miles to us for a complete respray in Subaru Black Diamond. The rear wiper washer holes were shaved, as well as the factory body kit holes (that's 28 holes total)! The fenders were also rolled in order to accomodate his wide wheels and allow for a lower stance.

Kyle Hohlier's MkIV 12v VRT GTI

When Kyle's pride and joy, a 1.8T Wolfsburg Jetta, was flooded over the past summer, it looked like the car might be totalled. Anticipating the need for a new dub, Kyle found - and promptly bought - this Mojave Storm Beige GTI. When he picked her up she looked pretty tame... stock 17" alloys, factory bumpers, even stock ride height. But there was something funny about the front bumper, and the car made this loud exhaust noise...

Kyle had just bought the ultimate street sleeper: a beige VR6 turbo GTI. Save for the massive intercooler haging out of the hacked-up front bumper and loud, straight-pipe exhaust, you'd have expected to see a 60 year old guy driving this car. Kyle aimed to fix that while keeping the "low key" profile.

We found Kyle a factory R32 front bumper for a fraction of the dealer's price, ordered Dubtechnik OE-look sideskirts, and sprayed the rear valence (until an R rear can be sourced). Kyle fitted the 19" ADR Spades from his old MkIV Jetta and also lowered her 2". All fixed! She now looks as good as she runs.

A cool little sidenote: Kyle's Wolfy actually cleaned up and dryed out quite nicely after the flood! He was able to keep both cars, and his wife now drives the Jetta daily!

Update: Kyle's GTI dyno'd around 375 - with a sputtering ignition pack. The ignition has been fixed, and Kyle will be returning for a second pull soon!

Grant Visser's '02 Jetta 1.8T

Grant has been one of my best friends for a few years now. We met on VWVortex.com while chatting about our similar 2002 1.8T Jettas. Almost immediately upon meeting in person we founded Team Foolie, the Wichita, Kansas VW club. A lot has happened since then. Foolie is now WetDub (after merging with OKCWetDub of Oklahoma), the club is now comprised of 60+ members, and well... I don't have my '02 Jetta anymore... but Grant has his!

Grant loved his car in it's stock form, but there's always room for improvement. In this case, lots of little things add up to one big change. We painted the stock engine covers and valences and added an ABT grille, Hofele bumper ducts, and M3-look trunklid spoiler.

The Jetta sits on coilovers and 18x8.5 BBS CH wheels. Grant chose to motivate her with an APR chip, GHL turbo-back exhaust, Carbonio intake, and Samco plumbing (among many other goodies)!

Grant's car isn't the most aggressive one in this group - it won't catch your eye in a crowd like some of the others here - but once you catch sight of it, you're likely to find yourself staring!

Taylor DeWitt's MkV Rabbit

If there's one car in this group that gives the proverbial middle finger to the mainstream, it's this one. Taylor's bunny is loud, obnoxious, and rolling on plain 'ol steelies (replacing the former 18" Lorinsers). The tails, markers, and windows are all blacked out and a Seibon carbon hood continues the theme, but Taylor wanted to take it a step further... maybe two steps in fact...

It seems the Spraywerkz Signature style is to paint the roof with a stenciled design on the upper hatch - we've done "GTI" text, the Rabbit V logo, etc. - and once that subject came up, it turned out Taylor already had just the design in mind. Let's put it this way: this is the only MkV Rabbit with two bunnies on the roof. The photos explain the rest.

Like many euro enthusiasts, Taylor never calls his cars "done", so plan on seeing more here soon. Let's hear it for non-conformity!

Pete Smith's MkIV GTI

Pete loves the OEM-plus theme, so he opted for an R-line front bumper and shaved & smoothed factory rear.

The clean and simple look of Pete's GTI earned him the honor of Top VW at Import Face Off 2007! This was the car's debut show. Congrats Pete!

Roy Goodson's Rado... Resto?

Are we really getting to the point where you'll start hearing about Corrado restorations? Where has the time gone?! Seems like only yesterday these beauties were sitting on dealers' lots...

Well maybe 'restoration' isn't the word for this project, but she's cetainly getting a heck of a massage. Floyd Goodson and his son Roy, who owns the car, figured while they had the VR6 mill out it would be a perfect opportunity to have the slight body damage repaired and recoat that faded, peeling shell with new paint!

The Goodson's have completely dismantled the VR and are in the process of building it back up with mild cams and other goodies. Just enough to be able to say it's not stock... but, as they say, why mess with a good thing? The same could be said for the body and paint work, which will be kept limited to repairs and respray in the gorgeous factory blue.

Dale Moles' Mini Cooper

This isn't one of those cushy BMW-sourced new Minis - it's a true ol' skool Mini. Well, sorta. Believe it or not this Mini was built in '99 and imported from Europe. Being a late model car, it is equipped with airbag, wood dash, fuel injection, even a power ragtop!

Dale works in the shop, and this is his second Mini. His first car was red and white, and the first day I met him we talked about respraying the car blue with a pearl white roof and stripes. Well, he sold that car, but as soon as he found this Tahiti Blue car he asked how much it would cost to get the roof and hood stripes resprayed in Pearl White!

We pulled the vinyl stripes off the hood and decided on a color. We chose a late model Lexus Pearl White for this job because the bright basecoat and pearlescent complimented the blue so well. Some pearl whites look dingy in anything outside of direct sunlight, but this color stays bright white at all times.

Dale is finished with the exterior for now, but he has full suspension and other goodies on the way. We'll post more pictures once the parts are on because the car is just fun to look at.

Adam Jermain's MkV Rabbit

Adam's bunny is the definition of the clean and simple OEM-plus style. H&R Sport springs, GTI skirts, color-matched bumper markers, and R-look tails accent the exterior, but the 18x8 VW Phaeton Challenge wheels are what really catch the eye. Paint work is in the planning stages now.

Jason Chamberlain's MkV GTI

We painted the hood, grille, and wheels on this car for Steven Volkswagen (Wichita, KS) last year and when Jason saw it he had to have it. Funny thing is, Jason gets bored quickly and decided to change it up a bit. We took the painted parts in on trade and installed Seibon hood and grille in their place. H&R Race Springs with Bilstein struts went on next, along with a tinted rear emblem and eyelids. ASA JH3 wheels with Falken tires were installed for some silver contrast, The final touches included a 2.5" Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, Neuspeed intake, and de-badged hatch. Of course the car couldn't leave without being "sprayed", so we swapped on our signature R-look tail lamps and smoked the mirror repeaters and bumper markers.

Think Jason got a little crazy with the mod list? He's already making plans for the car's third trip to Spraywerkz... and not just for parts.

John Finegan's GTI
Mar 15, 2007

This big-turbo 1.8T GTI came to us from Dallas for a bunch of subtle work including: repair and refinishing of both bumper covers, black-painted B-pillars and grille, new side skirts, and most obviously the Bordeaux Red roof and rear bumper top!

R32 repair

This poor R32 recieved an unfortunate nudge in her quarterpanel. Repairs were performed, and while we were at it we color coded the engine bay a little too!
