September 25 2003 Getting my duck fix I am at my sisters place in Christchurch, the biggest city in the South Island, and where I grew up. Christchurch is known as "the garden city" and has the grassy banked Avon River winding through the centre of the city. A trip to the doctors today got me out of the house. My sister kindly drove me the long way, along the banks of the Avon, so I could get my duck fix out the window of the car. Thanks Marianne for making my stay as enjoyable as can be under the circumstances.

September 10 2003 sharing pictures-local duck pond (Near Philly) by luvatfirstquack my brother drove by this pond on his way to work the other day and stopped to take a few photos of these beautiful ducks...I wanted to share them with you all. It looks like there are a few domestic looking ducks mixed in with the mallards-the drake looks like a Rouen.
This pond is about a half hour from where I live.

Al and I found a doggie park about 3 miles down the road and went there for the first time Friday night. It is very new and has not got the tree growth and shade yet so It is only good to go to very early in the morning and the evening.
While we were there I saw a couple of ducks (domestic) they looked like runner/crosses but they never got out of the water so not sure but at least there was a pack of them. they were all white with a bit of tan on them.
Al has been going in the mornings and the evenings and last night he said that while they were there there was a flock of about 10 Canadian Geese come over and land on the large lake. He is going to try to see if they are there this morning and get a pic.
The dog park is great it has two areas, one for the large dogs and one for the little dogs. it is totally fenced in and you are alowed to unleash your dog and just let it run and play. All of the dogs seem to get along really well. Even Peches got along with all the dogs there the night I went. It is really a great idea and will be super when the trees grow and it is shadier.

Kd was visiting in Phoenix and came up on this nice hotel pond. when she got there there were about 20+ mallard teens and one domestic duck that appeared to be a Blue Sweed cross. She visited the pond 2 times a day and fed the ducks wheat bread and cracked corn. They would not eat the corn out of the containers she put out and she had to just poor it into a pile or two on the lawn. And even then it took the Mallards a while to trust the food and eat. As the week went by everyday there would be fewer and fewer Mallards at the pond and finally on Friday there were just 4 mallards and the Blue. KD located a rescue person in the neighborhood and Christi came up with a couple of helpers and was able to catch Blue as he got to be known as and took him home with her. she has geese, ducks, peacocks and chickens.
a very eventfull week and one very lucky domestic duck with a new home.
