Instructions for Pond Pallets for the safety of
geese and ducks on a pond.
Why bother with docks for ducks??
We have a beautiful pond and enjoy having
ducks living on the pond. We prefer not to
pen our ducks but, unfortunately, we have
many predators. The worst are bobcats, dogs,
and coyotes but fox and even raccoons can
cause problems for ducks. So we need to make
sure our ducks spend the nights away from shore.
To do this, we made them some 'sleeping docks'
where they can sit and sleep throughout the
night. They are very safe on these docks as most
of the predators don't want to swim and even
when they swim, ducks are much better swimmers
and able to get away easily (owls may cause
problems in some areas - we have owls here but
they don't bother our grown ducks at all). Wild
geese, wild ducks, and a great blue heron also
enjoy sleeping on these pallets.
