Several years ago, a friend was discarding a Revell Beetle with an unfinished chop; I told him I'd see what I could do with it. After finishing the chop and adding widened fenders, the shell sat in a box for a long time....until the 'VolksRod' bug bit me hard. This one was finally wrapped up in the fall of 2005. box for a long time....until the 'VolksRod' bug bit me hard. This one was finally wrapped up in the fall of 2005. - photos: 14 (5 MB)

For a 'make it & take it' event my friend Matt & I did at the Saratoga Automobile Museum back in November of '05, I built the same model the kids would be building as a 'demo'....with a few added paint details. My mom is a PT fan, and I gave it to her as a gift after it was done. This model was completed in November of 2005. paint details. I happened upon a few incomplete 'pre-owned' AMT Rabbit kits a few years back, and decided that I needed to make one cool model out of the bunch.....3 of them gave their lives for this project. I was commissioned to build this model for a friend; it was an unbuilt 'mint-in-box' kit, so I was a little hesitant.....after all, it came out 12 years before I did. I was so thrilled to have been given the chance to build one of these from a new kit that I refused any payment for doing it. This model has been referred to as my own personal 'barn find.' After painting nearly everything and doing about 90% of the chrome foil, I sort of lost interest in the project and boxed it back up for the proverbial 'rainy day'...that was in 1996 or 1997. I unearthed the box it was in and, with a day's work, finished it in December of 2006. for the proverbial 'rainy day'...that was in 1996 or 1997. After seeing a local guy's über-cool oval this summer, I was inspired to do a 'quickie' build of yet another Gunze-Sangyo '56 kit.....and it makes great use of my first set of resin BRM wheels.
While not an exact replica of the real oval, I did draw heavily on it for inspiration. This model was completed in November of 2007 wheels.

I've been secretly working on this once since last October, and it has given me a chance to exercise both my weathering abilities and my sense of humor. I used the Revell '69 Daytona as the basis for this build.

Armed with a spare Tamiya kit, and some custom-made decals from a buddy, I had a little fun.
Although technically not a finished model, it was together enough to be on the table at the 2008 NNL East. I still have to add interior details and minor trim pieces before calling it 'done.' East. My mom wanted to work with my nephew on another model project, so she picked up the Revell snapper kit to give him as a gift for his birthday last year. To make it a little more unique, I pre-painted the body and interior and added a couple personal touches.
Ma never got to see the model completed, but I know she'd love it. the body and interior and added a couple personal touches.
