I like hot rods and aircooled VWs alike, so it was a natural that I'd find a way to get both into one project.

Several years ago, a friend was discarding a Revell Beetle with an unfinished chop; I told him I'd see what I could do with it.
After finishing the chop and adding widened fenders, the shell sat in a box for a long time....until the 'VolksRod' bug bit me hard.

For a 'make it & take it' event my friend Matt & I did at the Saratoga Automobile Museum back in November of '05, I built the same model the kids would be building as a 'demo'....with a few added paint details.

As a gift to my friends Doug and Pam, I built a replica of 'Schultz,' their unrestored '65 Beetle; the model was based on a Tamiya '66 Beetle kit.

This was my first build of the Gunze-Sangyo '56 Beetle kit. I used automotive lacquer paint and Bare Metal chrome foil on it, but the rest is 'out of box.'

After painting nearly everything and doing about 90% of the chrome foil, I sort of lost interest in the project and boxed it back up for the proverbial 'rainy day'...that was in 1996 or 1997.

Yet another 'personal barn find' unfinished model that languished in the box for several years, and I pretty much wrapped it up in a couple of days.

After seeing a local guy's über-cool oval this summer, I was inspired to do a 'quickie' build of yet another Gunze-Sangyo '56 kit.....and it makes great use of my first set of resin BRM wheels.

I've been secretly working on this once since last October, and it has given me a chance to exercise both my weathering abilities and my sense of humor. I used the Revell '69 Daytona as the basis for this build.

Armed with a spare Tamiya kit, and some custom-made decals from a buddy, I had a little fun.

Although technically not a finished model, it was together enough to be on the table at the 2008 NNL East. I still have to add interior details and minor trim pieces before calling it 'done.'

My mom wanted to work with my nephew on another model project, so she picked up the Revell snapper kit to give him as a gift for his birthday last year. To make it a little more unique, I pre-painted the body and interior and added a couple personal touches.
