Thursday evening, May 24, 2007, the Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department was called out of the city to a fire behind a shop building of tires and wheels. The Volunteers that made it with the equipment from the fire department hosed the fires with water and later foam to quench the fire for good. The Environmental Protection Agency's rules and regulations require that there are no open fires containing fluorocarbons and other potential harmful substances being released into the air such as tire fires do. All the County's Volunteer Fire Departments are ever vigilant on protecting the population from fire as well as air pollution as well as trying to enforce State and Federal Law.

The Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department was called out to a abandoned residential fire that had previously been burned. One would think that a previously burned house wouldn't have much to catch on fire since there wasn't any gas or electrical services to the burnt house to have caused the fire. A Hoxie Police Officer stated that it's common that someone would reset the fire for fun or for other reasons. While the arsonist maybe having loads of fun, all volunteer firemen are being put in jeopardy each and every fire that they battle that they shouldn't be forced to face for a sick individual's pleasure.

Hoxie's Volunteer Fire Department was called out Sunday morning, May 13, 2007, to 1500 Broad Street in Hoxie to a fully engulfed house fire. The house was unoccupied and without any electric or gas service hooked up so again it appears to be arson which has been plaguing Lawrence County as well as Hoxie and Walnut Ridge here of late. The new owners of the residence stated that they were using the house for extra storage of personal effects and all was a loss.

Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department was out and about the city Sunday, December 16, 2007 with a special guest sitting atop waving to all the kids and adults he saw as he rode by. Santa Clause was dressed in his traditional red velvet suit that framed his white beard and hair which matched well with the red fire truck. Several kids of all ages were able to climb aboard the fire truck and sit in Santa's lap for a few minutes telling him what they wanted for Christmas later in the week.
