Shortly before 3:: P.M. the emergency services, Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department, Walnut Ridge Fire Department and Arkansas Excellent Transport, were called to just South of the overpass on South Highway 67 to the site where a woman had hit a patch of ice under the overpass and lost control of her vehicle and wound up in the ditch half submerged in the ditch. Shortly after 4 AM Wednesday morning the Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department was paged out to Ringle Street to a abandoned house that was fully engulfed in fire. The house did not have any electric power or gas that would have caused the fire. Apparently the fire was started by arson. or gas that would have caused the fire. Saturday, October 10, 2009, the Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department held their annual open house at the fire house. There were several families and friends of the Fire Department on hand enjoying the open house. There was hot dogs and hamburgers with soft drink served for lunch. There was displays by the National Guard as well as the Hoxie Fire Department and the Craighead Fire Department's Safety Trailer. I'd hate to fail to mention the brave volunteers that manned the dunking booth just out side of the community center that braved the cold air and water depending on the aim of the baseball thrower. open house.
