Residental Fire New Years Day
Jan 1, 2008
New Year's Day, January 1, 2008, had the Hoxie Volunteer Fire Department being called out to a residential fire on Lawrence County Road 514 just after 3:00 PM. Hoxie's Volunteer Fire Department called for assistance from Walnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Department due to the total involvement of the residence in fire and the windy weather that was hampering efforts to battle the blaze. With the windy conditions and the rural location with less access to water, the home was a total loss by time fire fighters were on the scene with enough equipment and man power to battle the blaze.

Robert E. Lee Armory National Guard Deployment
Jan 7, 2008
Monday morning, January 7, 2008, on the lawn of the Robert E. Lee Armory National Guard building again saw the deployment of the Unit's deployment to Iraq. While families held each other close, old friends and neighbors stood need to reassure their friend or loved one that they are supported here at home. The buses that were taking our heroes back to war drove down Highway 67 South into Hoxie saw hundreds of citizens lining the road waving their flags as a see ya later rather than a good bye.
The Robert E. Lee Armory National Guard Unit was deployed previously October 10, 2003.
