Brets Sketch of Bill's fisrt race car-32 Ford coupe SWB (2)
This was done from a fire damaged photo. The front section was burned off and the remainder of the photo was badly smoke damaged. front end was recreated by looking at a small on- track photo showing the car at a distance. When originally built the car's top was stock height. The top was chopped 2inches when car was repaired after being rolled. The color was red & white. what appears to be black in this sketch was red, the top was in primer at the time the photo was taken. The SWB designation here is an error..The front axle had been moved forward a couple of inches prior to this photo being taken.

I should add; I think Bill was running a stock passenger car wide five hub on the  RF not the 3/4 truck hub shown here. The young man who recreated this photo was only 12 or 13years old at the time he did this sketch and had never seen cars such as this race. In fact I doubt he has even seen one except in a photo. Good job Bret!. Hopefuly Bill will chime in here and comment on this.

    The Last Time
It is pointed out that Hamner went Oval track racing exclusively following the event pictured here..For all practical purposes he did, master-minding the Long Lewis Ford effort for a decade but the opportunity to campaign a '64 Thunderbolt was too much to resist,  in '64 & '65, in addition to his oval track duties, he prepared a very competitive Thunderbolt Super Stock and was back behind the wheel.

Mike Alexander and Bill's "Kiddie Corp"  following a July 4, 1976 "200" victory in Nashville. First time out for this still unpainted car. A '67 Cougar completed late the same afternoon at Bill's shop in Alabama.

Brets Sketch of Bill's fisrt race car-32 Ford coupe SWB (2)
After seeing Bill at the Racers Auction and trade show in Huntsville last week-end, I called some friends to tell them I had seen him there. We agree this car sported the # 7 on it's side and was powered by a '49 Merc. engine.

This is a copy of a draft of a flyer to be used in advertising the event mentioned. It was in my late Dad's files and I have discovered it has an error in the date. The final print had the correct date of October 10, 1964. Sorry I missed this before submitting it.
