I never got a buick dealer to sponsor a ford but in the early 70s,as this photo shows I had Western Dodge owned by Bill Wade put up bucks for a chev powered chevelle.Notice behind the rear window the logo we sell the best and sponsor the rest. Logo was Bill's idea, I had to compromise. Watched the many 709s win quite a few on a sunday afternoon. The Pilleteria's were real racers and they did beat me at the

Bill Hamner built the engines and assisted R.C. Alexander.with his racing program for several years. Alexander's Harpeth Ford entry won Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway track champion ships three consecutive years, 70 & 71 with Flookie Buford and 72 with Darrell Waltrip and then after narrowly mising in 76, Mike's rookie year, they came back with Mike in 78 to captue anothertitle.
The 39 car is Friday Hassler you can just see the see Rock City bird house on the 1/4 panel.The 48 car is Donnie Allison in Roundman Amicks car .Alton Jones later drove this car to many wins around the southeast.
