Oh rats!!

WARNING!! If you don't like these not so little rodents, please don't look at these pictures. These are brown rats, a native species of the UK, wild and amazingly clean and disease free....I spotted 4 of them taking advantage of the spilt seeds from a bird feeder in the North Cave wetlands. I personally like them...although they're not as cute as rabbits and squirrels!

Brown rat...Latin name, Rattus Norvegicus

Here come two of them to the base of the bird feeder. They do us a good service really, clearing up the rubbish that we, as humans, discard without thought.

I think they don't starve, they are so fat! Rats are very clever animals, I like them. Not at home, of course...

They didn't ask to be born rats did they? So we should treat them with the respect we give other animals. However, I do not share your liking for them Andy. I have to come into contact(fairly close) with Black Rats (Rattus Rattus) on the island of Inchcolm, and they can be a pest, I am told they are the only true indigenous species of rat in the British Isles. They are also the rats that carry the plague!!

I think I'd avoid them like the plague! Pardon the pun.

Well, I'll be honest and say I wasn't going to look either, but if Terrified Tina can, I guess I better too!!!
That's Terrified Tina! You are not terrifying, usually, Tina!

    ***************

It's always a good thing to face your fears John LOL. I'm only sorry I couldn't get really close to them.

Well, I will be honest here and say that I was not going to look at this album, but thought well just see one and if you don't like it leave! This does NOT look like a rat as I know them to be. So, I will go on to the next photo!

    **************

Good for you Sheila. If John can do it...............

Very good question Tina...my guess would be in the holds of ships...especially with grain etc.
