1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super sedan

Another one of the unusual cars with a great story that makes Cars and Coffee so special. This seemingly unassuming 1967 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super sedan was driven by its owner from New York to Chicago then to Chicago to LA on Route 66. What could be more crazy, and define what Automotive Traveler is all about than to drive a 46-year-old Italian car 2500 miles cross-country, on the most iconic American road? Personally, I don't think it's a crazy as it might first appear.

For more of the story, read the owner's amazing blog at http://route66alfa.com/

The New Klasse BMW 1500 four-door sedan, introduced in 1962, is generally accepted as the first modern compact sports sedan. But a case can easily be made for the Alfa Romeo Giulia as it too was introduced in 1962, and shared much of its mechanical components with two-door Alfa Romeo sports cars. And in spite of its upright, boxy design, the Giulia has a lower drag coefficient than the Porsche 901/911 introduced more than a year later.

Richard , this is when I first met you at Cars & Coffee in August 2013. This is the Giulia my brother drove from NY to CA on Route 66.  I had forgotten about these pictures. They are great. Thanks for making the car look so much better than it was. By the way since then, the car has had a bare metal body restoration & respray in NY, to the tune of $30K !!   It started with a couple of bubbles that needed to be taken care of & snow balled into a full restoration. The same old story. It's in the upholstery shop now getting it's interior sorted. Thanks again.
