Mercedes-Benz SL Appreciation Day at Cars and Coffee
The great thing about the Saturday morning Cars and Coffee in Irvine, California, is that you are never sure exactly what will show up. While the 1961 Fiat 600 Multipla MPV was great (http://automotivetraveler.fotki.com/from-the-archives-14/) this Saturday was an appreciation for all series of the Mercedes-Benz SL. There were almost a dozen first-generation SLs in attendance, both Gullwings and roadsters.
Most interesting to me was Steve Marx's white 300SL, chassis number 18, a very early 1954 model. Steve took time to show me the differences between his car, such as the dogleg shifter and the welting for the front fender "eyebrows," features not found on later model production 300SLs which he pointed out on the other Gullwings nearby. Thanks for spending the time with me Steve, I learned so much and appreciate it greatly.
