Mercury Retrospective

Starting in 1939 when it was introduced by the Ford Motor Company, Mercury was positioned between Ford and Lincoln in the Ford brand hierarchy, designed to compete against GM's Buick, Oldsmobile, and Pontiac brands. Over the years Mercury offered up some distinctive cars and in the sixties it introduced the first luxury Pony Car, the Mercury Cougar, which was a spin off of Ford's wildly successful Ford Mustang. Over the last decade Mercury offered few unique products and now it joins Oldsmobile, Plymouth, Pontiac, and Rambler in the graveyard of American automotive brands. Over the last five years I haven't shot too many Mercury magazine features but here's nine publication-worth Mercury cars from my archives. Mercury the automotive world is now poorer for your passing. All images copyright 2010 by Richard Truesdell and automotivetraveler.com, all rights reserved.
