indeed it is Fort Jefferson, lots of cannon, but never a shot fired in anger. Dr. Samuel Mudd was held prisoner here for setting John Wilkes Booth's broken leg.('but apart from that Mrs Lincoln, how did you enjoy the play?') There is a hotshot cannonball oven and miles of beautiful brickwork (if you like that sort of thing) It does remind me of the 'Roundhouse' in Camden, but there are no trains within 200miles. Every brick had to be brought in by ship. Nearest McDonalds is in Key West, some 80 miles distant. Lots of reefs to snorkel around on, bird sanctuary on adjacent island and quiet starry starry nights. Definitely one of my favourite places on the planet. >> That is Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas National Park.... (Florida) <<
Florida! Yes! That's in the Caribbean near Cape Kennedy. As a lover of fine sand I never forget a pure white grain. But I see now that what I thought was a friendly grazing buffalo he's petting is actually an enormous cannon what hath lost its wheels. Got stuck in the sand most likely.
This picture is definitely worth more than a thousand words. In fact it raises several hundred questions. I don't know whether to start with his pet buffalo or the roundhouse in the background. The white sand and vegetation suggests somewhere in the Caribbean. But that big black Saturn 9 rocket on the horizon says Cape Kennedy.
