The PEACE photo Project.
The PEACE Photo Project. This project started 8 years ago initially as the PEACE in Iraq Project but has quickly moved to the PEACE Photo Project representing many diverse communities united to deliver a universal message of peace and understanding. PEACE Photo Project is the first human photo petition to bring awareness to peace. The PEACE Photo Project captures more than each sign holder's proclamation for peace. It signifies a unique flavor that is distinct to each market it visits. To date it has been active in California, but is in the process of expanding into a national and international project. This project is the brainchild of 213's own Azul Amaral. Countless individuals, young, old, of all walks of life and colors of the flesh, have posed for this artivist..Music artists, local superheroes and talent have helped raise awareness for this project. It’s 13 shows last year from San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Puerto Rico, local universities, charter schools & Los Angeles’ hottest dance spots received write ups in numerous publications (URB Magazine, Working Class Magazine, etc.) + television appearances.. The project is close to 5000 photos. This year the project has reached its next level and is kicking off a wheat paste campaign in the Streets. The PEACE Photo Project is interested in collaborating to bring awareness to your organization, cause and community...

Do Over

>

Redefining the term "crunk", one Sunday at a time, every Sunday Afternoon…

This is a backyard feeling, the best music, great drinks, amazing people. A social soiree for all types of folks… & The Do-Over Open Bar makes it’s triumphant return. Invite your friends as no one can deny, The Do-Over is the place to be on a Sunday afternoon.

DoOver returns

Ask the average Los Angeles socialite what he or she will be doing on a Sunday afternoon and the answer you receive might not be very interesting. Perhaps vegging-out in front of the television or nursing a hangover from a wild Saturday night out. This was not the case, however, in the summer of 2005 when Sunday afternoons were made memorable at a little cabana-styled Hollywood getaway named Cranes Tavern. Respected members of the Los Angeles music scene, Chris Haycock and Jaime Strong, teamed up to bring meaning to Sunday afternoons with an unforgettable party playfully named Do-Over (Do your weekend all over). Haycock and Strong invited emcee Aloe Blacc to host the event and history was made.

Week after week, Do-Over grew to become a pleasure-full habit to a family of dedicated Sunday afternoon patrons. It became a regular hang out for the who's who of the LA scene, people looking for a good time from all walks, as well as desired venue for well-known deejays to share a mix. The element of surprise drove more and more people to this Sunday soiree just to see what guest deejay would grace the patio. There was something very special about this event and everyone wanted to be part of it. With very little promotion, relying mainly on word of mouth and throngs of dedicated patrons, Cranes Tavern often reached capacity early, leaving a line of folks outside patiently waiting to enter. Initially intended to run only from 2pm-9pm, Do-Over's overwhelming popularity consistently forced it to continue beyond scheduled.

In 2006, The Do-Over returns in the same fashion, with more hype, more excitement, more madness. We invite all of our friends, old and new, to take part in what we believe is the best way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Descarga Nights

¡Descarga! is a monthly Afro-Latin music gathering for the people. This event is an alternative to the commercial salsa nights that have dominated the LA scene for years. Resident DJs Sloe Poke, Mando, Bobby Soul, Loslito, Azul and Mexican Dubwiser spin classic salsa, cumbia, merengue, punta, reggaeton, Brazilian and deep house grooves. With live bands gracing the stage at midnight at nearly every show, it has become the taste-making New York to L.A. soiree, running over 5 years strong.

Bridges Turns 7 + 5,4,& 3yr Anniversary's + some.

Here is the Bridges Vault of Photographs Dating back to 2005 atleast Enjoy!

What is BRIDGES?
8 years and still smokin,’ the Los Angeles groove-fest known as BRIDGES continues to bridge the gap between house lovers and hip hop lovers throughout Los Angeles. BRIDGES has been a part of the L.A. nightlife with its notable DJ lineups, inclusive vibe and creative approach to partying. It goes without saying that you’ll never encounter attitude, velvet ropes or the same old commercial rap heard at other hip-hop clubs at this long-running fave, which is surely why it’s lasted so long. What began as a sweaty underground gathering has, in fact, evolved into a mega-cool multifaceted multiculti celebration of music and art, live sounds, painting and percussion, and consistently stellar DJ guests.

"Catch me if you can"

Bike ride Aug 2nd 2009.
lots of fun!
check the words.
http://azul213.blogspot.com/2009/08/catch-me-if-you-can.html
it was benefit for The Pablove Foundation
About the Pablove Foundation:
The Pablove Foundation is named after Pablo Castelaz, the son of Dangerbird Records co-founder Jeff Castelaz and his wife Jo Ann Thrailkill. On May 17, 2008, Pablo was diagnosed with bilateral Wilms' Tumor, a rare form of children's cancer. The cancer appeared out of nowhere, with no warning signs in Pablo's general demeanor or health. He underwent treatment at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles. On June 27, 2009, Pablo's individual fight with cancer ended. But we fight on in his name, with the spirit of love that Pablo embodied and inspired. Specifically, the Pablove Foundation makes an annual contribution to cancer research and treatment at CHLA's Saban Research Institute, one of the top cancer research facilities in the United States. It also supports play activities, music and arts programs, and sponsors play rooms in the soft tumor units at CHLA. These 'units' are actually entire floors of the hospital, which are filled with brave, beautiful children at any time of the year. A strolling minstrel, a board game, a book, or an art easel bring such joy to the heart of a child whose life has been temporarily reduced to a small hospital room. For more info please visit

TIMELESS:Verocai Afterparty.

On March 15th, 2009, Los Angeles was blessed with a very special gift. The opportunity to see Arthur Verocai perform his seminal 1972 album for the very first time with a 36-piece orchestra. From the moment the maestro, Arthur Verocai, stepped out onto the stage at the Luckman Fine Arts Complex on Sunday night, the audience was mesmerized. Not only by the sight of this musical powerhouse gracing the L.A. stage for the very first time, but by his haunting, intensely beautiful and psychedelically soulful arrangements.

TIMELESS:MULATU ASTATKE After Party

Mulatu Astatke is one of the most influential and important musicians from Ethiopia. He has forged a new music from Ethiopian and jazz influences. His music veers from the sublime tezetas to the most foot stomping funk. He is a central figure in African Music in the way that Fela Kuti is. Mulatu’s influence, his tone and sensibility can be heard in much of todays music. More recently his work informed Jim Jarmusch’s independent smash Broken Flowers with actor Bill Murray.

Poncho Sanchez.

What a Treat this was,Im a huge fan.dreams come true.and after his set i closed the night out & Poncho chilled to listen.Thank you Art.

Friday August 29th 2008
KCRW Presents Poncho Sanchez at the Mint!
With Dj Azul 213*

More than anything else, Poncho Sanchez is a storyteller. And, as leader of the most popular Latin jazz group in the world today, it's his congas and seasoned ensemble that do the talking. Live in concert or on recordings, they spin vivacious tales that pay homage to the glories of a half-century tradition that was born when Afro-Cuban rhythms merged with bebop. One-on-one, the Chicano conguero is equally expressive, recounting in vivid detail the encounters, friendships, and passions that have contributed to his remarkable career as a bandleader and recording artist. Behind the choice of every song, album title and guest artist, there's a story Poncho Sanchez delights in telling.

Life Is Beautiful Behind the Scenes + show night pictures.

(Banksy's Exit Through the Gift Shop)

Life Is Beautiful
Wednesday, June 18 2008 at 7:00pm
Mr. Brainwash or MBW is the moniker of an eccentric French filmmaker.
MBW has spent the last nine years attempting to make the ultimate documentary about graffiti art. But whilst filming many of the world's most renowned street artists at work MBW began putting his camera aside and making art of his own. He has graduated from a few hand drawn stickers to giant billboard sized paste-ups, eventually becoming one of the most prolific street artists in California.
MBW does not fit the stereotype of your average street vandal. His artistic process chiefly consists of throwing random modern cultural icons into a blender and turning it up to eleven. The results are by turns profound, provocative and inspirational.
'Life is beautiful' is the first exhibition ever mounted by Mr Brainwash. It takes place in a former Hollywood studio complex and will feature over three hundred paintings, sculptures and prints alongside an installation made from 100,000 shoes and a life-size re-creation of Edward Hopper's 'Nighthawks'.

"Mr. Brainwash is a force of nature, he's a phenomenon. And I don't mean that in a good way."

"FILTER PARTY" @ CORONA YACHT CLUB +"ANTHEM PARTY" @ CREE ESTATES

HIT+RUN was created in 2005 by Southern California artists Brandy Flower and Mike Crivello. A product of the contagious enthusiasm they had seen from small silkscreening parties in their homes, HIT+RUN’s live T-shirt screenprinting events quickly grew, now hosted at music festivals and a variety of happenings around the world. At each HIT+RUN event, Flower and Crivello act as curators, selecting from their network of artists to compile a collection of exclusive single-color silkscreen designs. Guests personally select their own combination and placement of the designs, each graphic solely available during the single night exhibitions. Party goers interact in the screenprinting process on-site with the HIT+RUN CREW to create one-of-a-kind pieces of wearable art.
