On Saturday, June 26th in Griffith Park, Extra Mild Sauce, Cashmere Agency and Numark presented SOULNIC©, a Soul Dance Music Picnic Celebration. As the first event of its kind in Los Angeles, SOULNIC© set out to follow in the tradition of several, successful Soulful House Music picnics that have been taking place annually in cities like Chicago, New York and Atlanta for several years. Hundreds of folks showed up for this event, including Chicago's house music legend Wayne Williams! What you missed out on: 10,000 watts of music by some amazing DJ's, the Peace Photo project, dancing in the park, volleyball, playground for the kids, and extra DJ equipment for you to play around with, and so much more!!! The purpose for this event transcended music culture and impacted the lives of youth through SOULNIC's commitment to raise money for The Lula Washington Dance Theatre Youth Program.

THE PEOPLE was started November 2007 by music lovers who felt the East Bay was being overlooked by Bay Area taste makers. Oakland, with its history as a community of immigrants, transplants, revolutionaries, leftists, artists, and people of color, is an obvious place to create a gathering focused on creative community building through art and culture.
THE PEOPLE aims to redefine nightlife in the East Bay by cultivating music, art, dance, fashion, cuisine, and community to create a soulful and eclectic experience. You can expect to hear gems from across the musical spectrum - progressive dance-hop to Afrobeat flavored house - the only limit imposed on the music is that it must move the body, mind, soul, or all three. Guest Chefs nourish THE PEOPLE with meaningful cuisines including locally and organically sourced food and foods that reflect the diverse cultural heritages of the community. Artisan vendors display and sell work including painting, jewelery, and clothing.

¡Descarga! is a monthly Afro-Latin music gathering for the people. This event is an alternative to the commercial salsa nights that have dominated the LA scene for years and pays homage to the Afro-Latin connection, through classic and urban world beats. When the soulful underground Latin music night began five years ago with DJs Dusk, Sloe Poke and Loslito, ¡Descarga! was about digging in the crates for the rarest salsa cuts and the funkiest Latin 60s and 70s sounds, in a club that would cater to LA's indie underground Latin, hip hop, funk and soul music scene. Today, the venue has changed, but the spirit of the night is still beating strong.

Up-Rock 77 – A monthly journey into the cultural expression of American hip hop culture at the brand new Gallery in down town Los Angeles, will be a night dedicated to the musical experiences, photographic visions, and personal ideals of a youth movement born in The Bronx, New York, in 1977 and the very influences up to the present day that has created the most relevant sound to describe the state of Urban America through music since Jazz was born in the 1920's.

consciousness of art making. PEACE, BEATS AND BOMB POPS brings
together favorite talents under one sky to give you something you

Shit will be happening live like it's supposed to: THE PEACE IN IRAQ
PHOTO PROJECT serving as the centerpiece, with fellow artists MEAR ONE
and MARK OF THE BEAST securing the perimeters. Atmospheric
manipulations will be provided by MATHMASS & HAMZTEEZEE plus generous
bomb pop delectables from THE HEARTS CHALLENGER ICE CREAM TRUCK. Look
for T-Shirts generated in real time from members of the HIT + RUN
CREW, along with MIKE THE POET thinking out loud!

Revolutionary beats provided by: Daz,Valida, J. Sole, Phers One, No
MSG,Oakason + various and sundry mystery guests throughout the course
of the evening.

The location alone will get you, guaranteed. Set in a secluded outdoor
venue, you'll be able to relax in a garden setting and lean against a
fifty foot palm tree while still being able to witness one of the
Eastside views of our skyline. What? Yes.
