The brutal activities, fostered by the greed and avarice of a local criminal religion thug, shown in this album are NOT for the squeamish. They were in fact outlawed by the US Congress after LIFE magazine published photos of the consequences. I don't know that the outlawing was effective because the seal population continued to decline radically for years afterward and I neither have revisited nor have any interest in doing so. But this is what I saw when I was there.

As I was touring the Shasta State Historic Park in central California on 060728 I had an overwhelming sense of deja vu, i.e. "I've seen this somewhere else before". This album presents my photos together with commentary on how the sights there relate to contemporary reality. The self styled "World Center for Birds of Prey" was a major major disappointment for this lover of raptors. I don't think Krystal (my adopted kestrel) would like the place. Nor would Whoopi (peregrine falcon) nor Cappucino (barn owl) who also reside at the Animal Ark.
