different eagles in two different trees. Unfortunately, they were not very photo friendly, and I only got one shot at them before they flew off.

The Wildlife Center of VA released the three eagles from the Norfolk Botanical Gardens as well as two other juveniles that had been rehabbed. 1500 or so were on hand and I was lucky enough to get a press pass and be up close to the eagles as they were getting released. An amazing event to be a part of!!

On a very early morning trek to look for eagles on the James....somebody forgot to tell the eagles. But I got some awesome sunrise pictures.

A few ducks and geese at Crewe's Channel...Sunken Meadow had at least a dozen bald eagles and some geese.

I stopped by Dutch Gap to catch the late afternoon sun and was treated to a large amount of activity...lots of variety today. Nothing was frozen over...for now...

and despite 30+ MPH winds, we had some great birds. We stopped first at the 1st island of the CBBT, then to Eastern Shore NWR, Magotha Bay, Oyster, Willis Wharf, and then to Chicoteague.

A gorgeous day to be out...went to my old homeplace and toured the area including Grandview and Buckroe beaches.

A late afternoon visit provided good light for pics and a nice quiet way to spend the afternoon.

The first 11 pics are at Sunken Meadow, the rest are from Hog Island. 150+ egrets at Hog island, ibis, osprey, eagles, shorebirds and gulls galore. A great day.

Gloucester, VA. It was a young male that was captured earlier in the month after having a run-in with a momma osprey that thought he got too close. The bird was very alert and ready to fly as evidenced by the quick getaway over the lake.

A nice afternoon going through Prince George to Surry.

A baby deer was brought home by a friend's dog. The poor little thing didn't seem to be hurt too bad. They stopped by here on the way to the local rehabber.

A cloudy day turned into gorgeous sunshine on the CBBT and Eastern Shore. Highlights were the hawk at Wise Point and the OysterCatchers on the first island.

Valley National Wildlife Refuge [RRVNWR] near Warsaw, Virginia. I took the kids for their first ever release. It was a older female that was released and she was happy to be free. Once she took off, she never looked back. There was a good turnout of 40+ for the release.

d I also did a couple of the birding trial areas near there. Lots of osprey everywhere, and most were very photo-friendly. Also got pics of a pair of Oystercatcher's around on the point at Bethel. They were quite cooperative until the terns invaded their space.

I was fortunate to witness the release of a rehabilitated juvenile male Bald Eagle on Friday at West ...more

over Plantation in Charles City County, VA. This particular eagle was discovered by a bander on the North Fork of the Shenandoah River in Warren County, VA, and determined that he had a broken leg. The bird was taken to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, (http://www.wildlifecenter.org/) to have it repaired and after almost four months, he was ready to fly…so to speak. The WCV had a 200 foot area that he was housed in and practiced his flying….so he was quite unsure of his freedom when released. He flew off about 40 yards then circled back to some trees near the gathered crowd. He sat there for a good 30 minutes before then flying to a nearby freshly cut corn field.

A trip to dinner gave me an unexpected photo op with a very large beaver.

He was by himself today and stayed hidden until I was about to call it a day. Then he was very photo-friendly and let me get close enough to get some really good pics.

n the Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel inlcuding many terns and gulls. We then headed to Oyster and spent several hours there. It was a fun day.

A friend of mine sent me a note to alert me to this oddity in the West Point area. It was a dreary morning, but he showed up right on cue.

We spent the day fishing and cruising the York River with my sis and her husband. A fun but hot day.

The kids and I spent a few hours riding around Yorktown and were treated to a cute little fawn, a baby buck, a family of mute swans, and a small blue heron.
