The beautiful ruins of Wenlock Priory have a colourful history, begining in the 17th century when St Milburge became abbess and brought Wenlock fame through the miracles she performed.. In the eleventh century, French monks were brought to Wenlock and it was refounded as a priory subject to the Abbey of Cluny in Burgundy.. There are so many tales of great wealth amassed by corrupt abbots and connections with several Kings & Queens....... Evidence remains in the beautiful ruins here, of one of the largest monastic churches in the country, as well as some of the most elaborate stone carving.... An Over Night Stay In Wales... THERE WAS HEAVY RAIN FOR THE WHOLE OF THE DAY...
The Guest house, Llwyn Onn is situated at the gateway of Snowdonia's National Park, this small family- run B&B is set within an area of natural beauty, amidst the rolling heather moors of the Hiraethog..
Llwyn Onn is a former Victorian Watermill sympathetically restored into a modern welcoming guest house . Nestled amid 6 acres of land, the house boasts beautiful views, a natural lake to the front, with ducks and local wildlife, and open fields leading up to the Berwyn Mountain range behind..... There Is No Place Like This Home...
The Filming Of "Brideshead Revisited" Here In 1981, provided the opportunity to begin the restoration of some of the rooms....
The Howard Family has lived in Castle Howard ever since it was built, over 300 years ago. Successive generations have welcomed visitors to the house, and today with all the continued support of all the visitors, that makes possible the endless tasks of restoration and renovation throughout both the house and Grounds..
The Howards of Castle Howard stem from Lord William Howard (1563-1640), youngest son of Thomas, 4th Duke of Norfork, whose skill at marrying heiresses eventually led to his execution. "Belted Will" took possession of Henderskelfe in Yorkshire, the site of Castle Howard today, as part of the inheritance of his wife, Elizabeth Dacre.
The Howard's don't usually allow anyone to photograph inside their home, on this day we visited they were allowing it, with it coming up to the holiday season, so we were very lucky that we turned up on the one and only day they were allowing us to!!!! Hope you enjoy this album as much as we did visiting!!
Thank You For Taking The Time To Read!! ~Debbie~ :o)
PS.. I Tried To Keep This Album As Small As Possible, To Me It Was IMPOSSIBLE! Castle Howard Is Such A Beautiful Place, I Just Had To Photograph As Much As I Could!!!!.... ~D~ :o) Castle Howard ever since it was built, over 300 years ago. Leighton Moss is the largest area of reedbed remaining in north west England.. It's special birds include the rare and elusive bittern, bearded tits with their distinctive ping-ping call, and marsh herriers, which are summer visitors. The reedbeds are fringed with willow scrub, home to woodland birds such as jays and long-tailed tits. In spring you can hear sedge warblers and garden warblers, and in summer the ground becomes a carpet of wild flowers.....
But Sadly I never seen many birds...... ~Debbie~ :o) herriers, which are summer visitors. The reedbeds are fringed with willow scrub, home to woodland birds such as jays and long-tailed tits. Half the world's wetlands have been lost over the last century and with them their unique wildlife-and this is accelerating.
Wetlands are essential to all life on Earth. As well as storing and cleaning our water, they protect us from floods and storms. The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a leading UK conservation organisation saving wetlands for wildlife and people around the world. Blue- John is a unique fluor spar found only at Castleton. The mineral is found in veins in the limestone deep within the Blue John Cavern where it has been mined for centuries. Thought to be named "Blue John" by John Kirk & Joseph Hall who worked the mines in the 18th Century, it is the rarest natural formation in the British Isles. The Romans were the first to discover Blue-John some 2,000 years ago. Further evidence of the Romans love for Blue-John comes from Pompeii were two vases were unearthed during excavations of the city. Over the centuries, Blue-John has enjoyed admiration all over the world. The Blue-John cavern is world famous, It is home to eight of the fourteen known varieties of Blue-John Stone, a beautiful & ornamental Fluor-spar. The mineral has been mined there for centuries & continues to be so in the winter months.. The traditional methods of turning Blue-John are still used, and the skill of the craftsmen working in the Original Blue-John craft shop in the village enable the visitor to view this unique stone at its best.. The Blue-John cavern is steeped in history and old mining equipment is on view inside the cavern.
Blue-John can be seen in its natural state.. The trip is a great experience for young & old alike..
The cavern in some parts is well illuminated by electric lighting.
I tried my best to photograph in the cave, but in some parts it was too dark to get really good photos.... ~Debbie~ :o) www.bluejohn-cavern.co.uk "Blue John" by John Kirk & Joseph Hall who worked the mines in the 18th Century, it is the rarest natural formation in the British Isles.
