Romanian Fashion Designer Romanitza to Make Dramatic New York Debut at Couture Fashion Week

Acclaimed Romanian couture fashion designer Romanitza Claudia Iovan will present her latest dramatic collection in New York for the first time at Couture Fashion Week. The highly anticipated fashion show will be held on Sunday, September 9, 2007 in the Roof Ballroom of the world-famous St. Regis Hotel.

A former fashion model, Ms. Iovan launched her Romanitza fashion house in 1991. The label soon became one of the most successful in Romania, and Ms. Iovan's inimitable style and work ethic helped to build her reputation as a highly creative and accomplished designer and business woman. The exquisite quality and aristocratic air of her designs have earned her distinctive runway shows a special respect and recognition.



In 1993 Romanitza was invited by the Romanian Youth Travel Office to be part of government-sponsored tourism promotion in the United Arab Emirates, with a collection of Arab-inspired pret-a-porter. In 1994 Romanitza won first prize at the National Fashion Festival of Romania, and shortly after became the first Romanian designer invited to open an exclusive showroom at the World Trade Plaza in Bucharest. Her 1996 Spring/Summer collection entitled "Rainbow Flowers" was presented on the runway at the World Trade Plaza's performance hall - a gala performance that also celebrated the designer's fifth successful year in the fashion industry. The event was covered by all major Romanian fashion publications.



Romanitza opened her second boutique in 1999 on Bucharest's fashionable Calea Victoriei, and soon after became the exclusive retailer of Elegance Paris fabrics and the Elegance Boutique pret-a-porter line, as well as of Borsalino hats and Bruno Magli shoes and bags for Romania. A few years later, Romanitza opened the first Escada Couture shop in Bucharest.

Tatyana Parfionova introduced her first collection in 1995. Caravan has made quite a name for itself; it is the little RV that could. Caravan literally started out as a gypsy caravan. RVs, stocked with designer garb, would roam the streets of Manhattan stopping at duly appointed times to show their threads to fashionistas who were "in on the inside." According to the Caravan website: "In 2006 Caravan opened our first brick and mortar location at 2 Great Jones Street in Noho. Caravan on Great Jones is a social shopping space. It is a place where people can shop, learn about new designers as well as listen to some fun music and work with our professional clothing stylists. More then a retail store, instead a showroom of sorts with a lounge area, DJ booth, and designer showcase."

Caravan showed these hot lines during Style 360 Fashion Week: By Malenen Birger; Fred Perry; IRO; J. Lindeberg; Kim Foley; Loomstate; Steelo; Sretsis; Vivienne Westwood; and WALTER. It was a fun show filled with truly accessible but fashionable clothing; this caravan is definitely moving up the road to fashion history.

NEW YORK, September 8, 2005 – Twenty-four-year-old Ashleigh Verrier said her New York fashion week debut was inspired by the early days of American sportswear, but there was nothing off-the-rack or immature about the line she showed Thursday afternoon. Her polished 12-look presentation ran the gamut from a silk racer-back tank and baggy tweed shorts to a navy cocktail dress trimmed in silver sequins, and each piece was finished with great care. The neckline of a simple jersey tee was piped in a contrasting color. Top-stitching added interest to a pencil skirt and trench cut from raw burlap. And a black lace overlay will make an otherwise straightforward navy-and-white shirt stand out and be noticed among the multitudes at Saks Fifth Avenue. The department store bought her Parsons thesis collection last year and has since been a loyal customer. An internship at Proenza Schouler's studio left obvious marks on this young designer; one collarless coat owed a debt to the duo. Otherwise, the mix-and-match, masculine-feminine sensibility Verrier is cultivating appears to be hers, and hers alone.

Levi’s jeans will soon be carrying the imprint of internationally renowned British artist Damien Hirst.

Hirst, whose artwork includes an actual human skull studded with diamonds, will be lending his talents to Levi Strauss. The artist will be working with the denim giant on 2008 collection of the San Francisco company's Warhol Factory X Levi's label.

Hirst’s creations will then be showcased in September during New York Fashion Week under the name Warhol Factory X Levi's X Damien Hirst.

Launched in 2006, the Warhol Factory X Levi's label paid tribute to the pop-culture art made famous by the late American artist Andy Warhol. Priced between $190-$250 for jeans and $80-$300 for tops, the said collection is only available at such high-end stores as Barneys New York, Fred Segal and American Rag.

After graduating from the renowned SITAM Institute of Design in Padova, Italy, Ms. Bocci opened her own fashion atelier in Albania. In 2001 she moved to the United States - what she calls "My Promised Land" - and quickly became known in the Detroit area for her impeccable fashion designs, selling to a discerning private clientele as well as to boutiques such as Alessandra Bridal, Janet Verner and Impulse. Her designs have been featured in Detroit Hour, Style and Inside Weddings magazines, and she is a favorite designer of TV news anchors Lila Lazuras and Rhonda Walker.

Ms. Bocci has worked with a number of charities, including the Rhonda Walker Foundation and the North American International Auto Show's Charity Preview. At the latter's recent event, the Detroit News named as Best Dressed "WDIV-TV Channel 4's Rhonda Walker's glam and sexy cranberry gown custom made by Shelby Township's Katerina Bocci." She also designed the evening gown for a photo shoot by Fadil Berisha Studio in New York with Miss Universe 2006 Zuleyka Rivera (pictured above) and Miss Albania Sadina Alla in the 2007 Miss Universe pageant (pictured at right). At another recent photo shoot, singer Fergie admired Ms. Bocci's work, so the designer presented the pop star with a beautiful gown to wear at an upcoming Hollywood event.

In 2007 Ms. Bocci opened the largest fashion design studio in Michigan. Posen grew up in New York City[1] attending Saint Ann's School[2]. He went to design school at Central Saint Martins in London[3], where he began to conceive his distinctive aesthetic. At 16, he interned at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute[4], under the tutelage of Richard Martin, followed by an internship with Nicole Miller and a position at Tocca[5]. In 2001, he was one of the new names at the Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion show.

In the early 2000s, Posen had success with designs worn by prominent young actresses including Natalie Portman, Liv Tyler, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Claire Danes. In 2004, Posen was awarded the CFDA Swarovski-Perry Ellis Award for Ready-to-Wear after his first major runway show. Posen is as much an entrepreneur as a design success; by 2005 many major stores were carrying his collections. Posen is the son of successful painter, Stephen Posen, and lawyer Susan Posen, who is currently CEO of his business, . He grew up in the SoHo area of New York City where he was often exposed to the affluent artistic social-scene that was appearing at the time. Posen is openly gay, and had a long-term relationship with interior designer Brian Callahan until mid-2007. He has since then been linked to a number of other partners. It is presently thought he is dating fashion designer Teddy James
