January-March or April 2009 (Full Sew-in)

Full sew-in weave.

This is my second week with my full sew-in weave as of 1/17. On day three after getting my hair done, I made an appointment to see the stylist again. I had called her on day 2 to ask when I could expect the hair to start loosening because some areas were very uncomfortable/sore. I was told the tightness would be relieved anywhere from 3-5 days. However, unwilling to wait that long because of potential damages to my hair esp. along my hairline, I was sitting in the stylist chair that third day. When I went in for my head/sew-in to be inspected, turns out there were a couple of problematic threads that were causing the tightness and let me tell you, my scalp felt almost 100% better as soon as the irritating threads were cut. I knew all along the sew-in/threads were most likely the issue, I did tell the person who braided my hair not to do the braids tight which she did. I’m just glad as of the third day, I haven’t had any issues with my hair, scalp or the weave apart from the itchies…I have been enjoying my weave and sleeping well since.

Note: I did tell the braider not to braid tightly from the beginning, but it was the sew-in part that started to cause the pain. I'm just glad I spoke up and got the problem corrected, I can now wear my weave w/o worrying much about it. Hopefully, all will be well when I take it down.

its pretty -- but I had a friend weave my hair and the tight scalp was soo irritating that I had to take it down. please be careful. I had a sore spot where the closure was sewn and it was very sore for weeks afterward. You dont want to have traction alopecia. Be sure to oil the tight areas with vitamin E and/or rosemary oil...

Let's just say I was in the salon for over five hours because I didn't have an appt and didn't plan on getting my hair done that day. However, a spot did open up and the stylist told me to come in so there were other heads before me. Because I've rarely been in regular hair salons for their services for a while, I forgot how long the process could take. But, I had to take the 22 or so plaits I had in, my hair had to be washed/deep conditioned, then braided in large braids so it could be dried under the dryer. My hair was then lightly blowdried, then braided in small cornrows, waited for the weave specialist, then the sew-in begun and waited gain for the weave to be cut/shaped into the style I wanted. Took too darn long for my hair to be done, but then again, it's not like I had an appt and at least I was satisfied with the results minus the pain in the front of my head that lasted for a good couple of days and only starting to feel slighlty better now, day 3. I'm just praying I don't have any damage to my edges and the that scares the hell out of me. The salon (when I was there and when I called to report the tighness) claimed they've never had such a case happen as they're into haircare blah, blah, blah, but you know I don't believe a word they say. Would I do this again? I don't know--it's expensive for the install/hair and the weaving really is a high maintenance style, not too mention it hurts a lot more than my braids...I really don't think I'm a good candidate for weaves.

Do I miss my hair? Not at all, maybe I will at some point, just not now. I only miss my scalp w/o the feel of any tension on my head.
