Do you use "high and cold area" in the view drop down of Aperture? I find it invaluable in locating 255 and plus highlight zones and 0 zones of the dynamic range - in other words blown out highlights or clipped blacks. I then use first recovery to handle the blown out highlights and highlight control if still needed) and the black point and shadows adjustment as needed.
Perhaps the dynamic range could have been improved (and make the photo more pleasing) by using the shadows adjustment to open up the background shadows.
Do you think you could have opened up the background a bit? The shadows adjustment would have done the trick. It's a case of inadequate dynamic range as the background has begun to be blotchy and distracting.
Technically great shot and wonderful use of flash, however from the viewpoint of quality of comm the expression of the baby isn't pleasing of course; not particularly what the parents would prefer to see. ###### YES!
