wow, it has only been FIVE MONTHS since my hair/technique overhaul
Jul 3, 2013

wow...just 5 months...

I remember it well, the inauguration playing in the other room, me ripping through my hair convinced that yet again we would be faced with the big shave, chemical...or ?

wow, how I spotted the pantene/pg.com website I don't know...but wow, there has been so much growth and improvement in just five months.

more importantly...

they say going natural lets you really know your hair.

no...dealing with your hair/embracing it's natural texture, unpicked out...that is the true test.

i had no idea so many wormy, coily thingies existed. well they say everything happens for a reason cuz as much as i am overwhelmed with its coils, texture, overall seeminly thicker appearance [in spite of the crown paranoia ten years later coming to fruition...] ...a few years ago had this happened...i might have LITERALLY been....scared of my hair.

happy growing!

shampoo success
Jul 23, 2013

applied shampoo and approached hair just as i would my jingling. and yes, for the first time in my perplexity of wondering what shampoo i should use...i actually thought, "gee, how about using the corressponding poo to the condish...."real eye opener there, right?

so far, so good.

wow, things just keep getting better and better...i guess it's time to-

meh, happy hair growing.

neat-o hair day

what started out as a 'didn't rinse all the condish out' day, ended with a lovely sponge mass reminiscent of one of the hair cycles of old.

"it is a [mass] of curls, frizz, and puff" totally totally not what was said, but close enough, from in onlooker in 2004.

it is quite sponge-able today. very nice...i wonder if it is the 'sink-effect' as the photo is 2004 was due to the 'sink effect'.

yet, many a sob blog was written due to that 'effect'

at least today there wasn't a backcombing horror, just rinsing out the excess condish over a sink.

happy happy joy joy. spongey hand in fro fun today!!!!

edited to add 20 minutes later:

hmmmmm, so what if i make the motions of back combing without ACTUALLY backcombing????? so, do new techniques as usual but rinse AS IF backcombing...all the lush puff and massy coils without the hair crown pull or unnecessary hair stress...

wow, and the ideas just keep coming. yay yay yay...

the literal debbie downer look after rinsing after a great technique was not made for this puffable hair. wow...looking forward to super sponge in the next few days... ;-D

survey says: herbalessences curls & waves totally twisted condish wins
Apr 19, 2013

when i think about why i stopped using it, I think walmart was out and i had no choice but to try others.

the hair is 'on'!! today, and i feel better using this as it is for curly hair so yes, once again, the ads are getting to me, and gosh I just love herbal essences.

I just hope they keep stock...

that's the beauty of hair messageboards, once word gets out, the products fly!!!!

this same epidemic happened back in the day with clairol's [as, well!, just like herbal essences!!!!!] now defunct daily defense tender apple.

NOTE: Stores, honor your crazed hair product ladies, stock the fuck up! it's a win-win for everyone...

Hair Question...as copied from naturally curly.com

'time to kill??? Condish Wash when using 'cone but no gels [lonnnnnng]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the first time, I'd like to try this condish only thing.

By accident it has been three weeks since a sulfate was in my scalp.

But when I just mildly rinse with a vo5 condish, my scalp 'squeaks' and I don't see residue.

daily I use ample, AMPLE amounts of herbal essences conditoners, so inevitably, I'd say at LEAST 5 % stays in the hair, add on that, the infusium spray i spray LIBERALLY - then, shake and GO

Input please.

Thanks!!!!!

4-18-13/updated 4/19/13...same hair, products, diff't yapping [oh, i mean, blogging ;-) ]
Apr 19, 2013

Conditioners, conditioning, and techniques new for 2013...happy happy joy joy

and YES, the pretty colorful bottles ARE a factor.

so much for overcoming Advertising deception, LOL...

there's white, orange, pink, purple, green, orange creme, blue, caramel, sea foam, etc. vo5 flavors
there's orange, purple, pink, fuchscia [sp], green, and blue, and purple cream and pink cream... while...herbal essences...am I creating artwork or conditioning my hair, LOL

and they work.

I MIGHT start adding gvp to my ends at night. i tried the vo5 in a baggie at night, but i am thinking the wet hair still means 'reconfigured' hair, so...I think i will try just pinning it up with conair mini bobby pins and see what happens.

it is like hair is fiber. the fiber gets rumpled. the conditioner smooths it out.

start at the ends and when you feel a 'tug' don't rip. gently detangle.

when you have knots, it is probably shed hair. don't try to hold on to it. hair is dead, and those shed hairs need to go. if they don't they will just latch on to the unshed hair and you will have some kind of 'knotted sheet they use to escape from jail' thingie going on and HAVE to cut it anyway.

happy hair growing...

you know when you think about it, society spends BILLIONS in dollars and science uses MILLIONS of manhours to create allllll types of magic with dead fiber. stuff that, like nails, is just an output of waste, stuff that is left over after the body absorbs what is needed.

But, this is America, we are having fun, so, happy growing!!!!!

i mean, you could take it to nails, hair, body hair, material possessions, mates, hygiene, and on and on...but the grunge period died in the late 90s. LOL!!!!!!!!!

and unlike Layne, Kurt, and Eddie...I actually like looking groomed and as if I have taken a bath.

BAWAAAHHHHHHH.... ;-D

good better best...gotta love growth...in life and well...hair, too! :-D

4/18/13
while hair loss is now minimal, thanks to new techniques-

[yes, word for this fotki, is 'technique, cuz without it...this fotki would just be a repeat of all the hair drama of year's past]

now, it is not about the hair loss, but just the overall care being used.

so, after detangling on monday with gvp conditioning balm...I refused to think it was the balm making hair smooth.

for some reason, i just WANT the herbal essences to work...LOL, isn't that a silly?

well, that is the power of the ad.

and for some reason, I just refuse to believe it won't detangle like the gvp.

mostly, cuz i know if i left h.e. on overnight, like i do gvp...ofcourse it would work, anything would.

and i would never be able to do the morning routine with gvp, it is too thick. and i noticed the same thing with h.e.

so just like i realized with the blackberry sage tea...the vo5 is slippery enough to 'get in the strands' and help them detangle.

but i am just so hell bent on this h.e. i think it works, too.

what do you all think?

I mean you are reading, what do you think?

Whether you are a straighty or a ultimate curlier than curly, what do you use?

or are you just interested in THIS hair blog?

I mean, this is the internet. who knows who is reading. who knows, who is that one with absolutely no life that will become obsessed with finding out who browncoily is, and why she IS. maybe follow her, see what she uses, finds that they don't like her products and doing a 1982 version of tylenol with conditioner.

you see, friends, that is paranoia. unfortunately in this day in age, there is less paranoia and more sad truth.

but, whatcha gonna do? not live? look over your shoulder? stop being you?

I tried that once...it was sucky. I would rather be me and deal with the consequences than try to be what I think i should be and stay miserable.

but dudes i am like miss fucking polly pure, there ain't too much the internet could do to hurt me or my loves, not in fact anyway, not ASSumptions, so if you can't say the same thing...er....maybe you should peer over your shoulder, nix the internet thing or at least password protect your fotki.

LOL...happy hair growing!!!!!!!

PS - doesn't that sound manic like, weird, and uncharacteristic of this fotki.

Exactly...now stop overthinking and think about YOUR techniques and how you can better do YOUR hair.

LOL, and doesn't THAT sound like nbc's will graham character off hannibal, the more autistic and asperger's than narcissistic sociopath?

LOL...happy hair growing everyone, stop overthinking and happy product hunting...

...on Wednesday, January 23, 2013...after 20...twenty years of trial and error...finally got it right!!!!! :-D

The prometheus cycle of hair comes to an end thanks to a simple yet never considered hair management technique.
Years of wet combing, full of condish but always always back combing.
Finally combed downward in hair's natural pattern.
'could never her past three years of growout due to combing technique.
If natural...before three year mark - relaxed. If already relaxed...cut shorter.
Finally confident about, God willing, getting past armpit length.
Happy hairgrowing, Ladies!!!!

2/11/13 - 3 weeks since change of hair habits after 20 years...this day marks yet another milestone...

detangling full of condish...and after 1.5 years...getting ready to carefully use a 'rake' comb to slowly get the shed hairs from the ends...

i cringe thinking about a tange teezer or denman brush, or any of the like...so this is the way...after 1.5 years...a decent de-shedding sounds good...

Magic!!!!! Shake&Go w/2nd, 3rd, etc. day hair!!!!
Mar 5, 2013

*My take on 'shingling'
*tools used: mebco comb, rat tail comb, gvp condish balm, infusium 23 leave -in spray
*Assume hair is piled with conditioner. Take
one section at a time, then part the one section
horizontally.

*Hair should glide through the comb full of condish. Comb thru the bottom half of first section of hair, clip the top with a seamless, plastic 'duckbill' clip...comb with wide tooth comb, if your hair is coily and the comb didn't cut it, use a rat tail CAREFULLY.

*Repeat this throughout head.

*Unclip all sections

*Head in shower, let shower water pressure fall on hair, rinsing the condish don't touch hair. Shake horizontally. Twisting head back and forth NOT vertically, horizontally.

*Do this until all condish is removed.

*Get out of shower.

*Voila, magic!

*Spray with leave-in or nothing. Just go about your day. Voila!!!!

*Second day, third day, yada yada yada

*Fold your satin scarf into a triangle, with the shiny side not exposed [this side snarls and 'catched' my hair.

*Loosely tie it around your chin, knot in front, make sure nape is in there.

*Pull one half of triangle, 'up' making sure nape is in there, then continue pulling the other section up, until the whole scarf, covering your nape, now has your hair smoothly going up, like a pineapple, or a like to call it, 'a turnip'.

*Hair should be smooth in scarf as it stands vertically. Tie another scarf around head, with knot meeting at front of forehead for added non-slippage. Sleep as usual. This is a dream for me, as no matter how you sleep hair is secure in scarf.

*In the morning, your hair should be sticking straight up.

*As you shower, put a cap or something on your hair until you are ready to deal with it. I like 4-gallon trash bags so I can tie with hair still 'up', LOL.

*Once you are ready, just repeat shower part. First bow your head down in front of shower as if you were going to backcomb to make sure water seeps in.

*Then standing up, let water pressure do it's thang. Just stand there until you feel it's saturated.

*Out of shower, shake horizontally, and voila. Magic!!! Magic cuz somehow this works and the back, despite being up in a turnip all night magically falls in the back.

*Spray or don't. after I spray my infusium on the first day, if I am going to do second, third, etc, I don't spray. I fear gross buildup, adding spray to hair and no manipulation with hands...ew.

*So this is it. I hate handling my hair, but after 20 years of angst, this routine has been a blessing. Since I am too impatient to untwist properly after twists surely pulling and breaking hair unnecessarily and I don't like putting stuff in it, I just don't like touching it, LOL. But hand in fro? All day, baby.

*****Happy growing!!!!******

*** not sure about my form of 'pineappling', I probably need to 'groom' daily if i want my nape to stand an orchid weed bounty chance. ;-)

hmmmm, drastic pj cut...3/25/13...(nahhh, same product frenzy...see 3/25/13 album...)(
Mar 19, 2013

so after sunday's routine, i think even the gvp is too thick...
i like the jingling with the gvp is just too thick, i think when i did it with the vo5 it was fluffier.

maybe i will try that and then [sigh] twist up at night as a nighttime sleep style, untwist [carefully...another sigh] and rinse in shower daily.
and go...

there has to be a patient bone in there. maybe i will put vo5 on the ends to ensure non-breakage.

so much for that sally's card...

and i may use the 2 in 1 with hair sectioned in twists to make sure my scalp isn't suffocating and preventing growth...[yup...angst 101]

wow...years of enough products to pay the mortgage in full on a small cottage have dwindled down to v05...which even in full pj mode would at the most put me at 10 bucks a week...
back length hair...i am knocking...by age 40...

so why is it when i am looking for poo that i never think to use to complimentary poo to the condish i use?

so, now i am on this, no color thing. gvp [not etched in stone i am done with it yet...] and now the vo5 teas.

since the title of the bottles are about as genuine as flying piggies, here are the ingredients to my new faves:

new for spring - one stop product shopping...[3/22: plus 3 more ;-) ] [see product section]
Mar 20, 2013

after years of product fever, my husband found me this incredible product right when I decided I had had enough of making pretend hair models actually used the products I bought.

VO5 blackberry sage tea condish. it works, i learned how to comb/condish my hair in sections, life is good.

since it is 'cone free i will prob use the corresponding 'poo every two weeks/once a week, whenever.

no leave in.

so now i become the girl on the street with the hair that is cool but you'd never know she didn't use upteen products just to make her hair look like a poofy puff puff.

yes...the advertisers get 'us', manipulating our desire to be the best we can...us not realizing a product will NOT do that...

yes you can get this 'look' [lol]using jack shit, not some $100.00 product that you "need" cuz even with my 'truly natural shook and went' look... "textured hair needs moisture." [don't believe it...unless you just wanna collect the pretty bottles...]

rinse

repeat

3/22/13 hair with tea therapy blackberry sage tea and infusium leave in

applied condish in evening, donnned cap, for overnite conditioning, got up, added water, proceeded to detangle with mebco comb and rat tail, rinsed, shook, sprayed copious amounts of infusium 23 leave in spray, shook more and went.

hair is getting thinner or longer??? I can not deny the joy i feel when i pull a shrunken tendril only for it to be twice or 3 times its length. and i HAVE to section my hair to properly detangle it, like i ALWAYS have in years past...so that has to be the same thickness, right?

Hmmm, longer natural hair is a doozy, and I am glad my technique is getting better. I ALWAYS think it is getting thinner, unfortunately everytime it has gotten longer there have always been 'other "extenuating" circumstances' that arein effect as well, sooooo, I can't really speak on what is happening, as everytime it has gotten longer...those same factors have been involved. [digress: you live and you learn...this is the web, your audience may not be your intended audience...sometimes you can't act as if certain things don't exist when you gain wisdom....digress over...]

Nonetheless,i am glad my practices have changed [since 1/20/13] or I might not have this much left.

the problem started when it got longer and i realized the same cute shake and go i got from backcombing for volume did not work anymore.

i saw clumps of hair going down the drain as well as conditioner, and didn't realizing my 'firm tugging while backcombing' was seriously pulling my hair out.

THEN again, at these times, i also got hella lazy and started going DAYS between by detangling/wash sessions, sometimes into the second week, compared to daily detangling...so...... imagine doing the same backcombing with easy to detangle daily hair versus....trying to backcomb hair that has not been detangled in 10 days and THEN you put clarifying poo on top of that... OUCH...see?

thankfully, it still looks like a cut. i love natural hair. it grow out of your head regardless of texture, and all at the same time, and same length but at various parts on your head.

does that make sense. sort of like a rooted barbie. if you take the same length of hair and apply it at different intervals you will naturally have a layered look.

my hair always looks weird as it grows out anyway.

so is it hair thinning or just the bushy effect of shorter hair growing out and down?

kinda like a chubby baby who lengthens out and appears thinner as they grow taller

hmmmm?

Earth to jonita...next time use same media for photos before spazzing. Meh... Life is good. Tea therapy rocks...see photos...

Is john waters hiring extras for crybaby? LOL

second day 99cent vo5 tea blackberry sage condish hair....so i guess it is 49.5 cent hair or yea, 99 cent cuz i did use two bottles with nite treatment and then comb out

it looks really good. i could see buying some high end 'creme' convincing myself i need moisture despite the 'look'. people pay hundreds of dollars for the 'look'. the, "oh, this stuff, no, i just shake and go..." true in the now case...not true in the case of the former ...pick one...relaxed, shaved, natural, repeat...

It's back on!!!! Herbal essences dry spell over...
Mar 25, 2013

Product album is accurate, afterall. LOL for 'poo i will use drama clean by herbal essence; in lieu of, suave clarifying.

'can't have too many brands...

Suave condish a nono and if wasn't good for myhurr last go round.

Never gave h.e. a chance after new routine/techniques...but, definitely a match.

Still vo5 for initial part of reggie, but i will use up all 'flavors'...yes, kiwi and sea salt too.

Companies want us to buy their products so i doubt any product can ruinyour hair...it ia more about the technique.

Don't fall for their hype, but i ain't wasting 60 bucks, either...

Happy growing, ladies....

(real ladies, not vernacular/ military speak for jarheads...)

3/26/13: more than 10% condish left in...oh, the horror... ;-)

Funny, today was a wonderful hair day where this morning, i was able to de-shed about 94% of my hair.

second day of he color me happy.

It is just...the rinsing part. If you don't rinse well enough you get remnants. and the worse part...it ruins my shrinkage. This new technique gives me the best shrinkage and less "hang". shrinkage equal better tactile fun with hand in fro. hang equals the french fry characters from 80s mcdonald's commercials.

NOT a good look.

worse still, i didn't feel like rinsing more. I look really weird today...but you know what...I am more bummed about the lack of shrinkage.

meh.

product that makes your hair less coily and shrinky...not good...
