Most of these photos are pretty bad, but in my memory they are perfect. I have taken them with even less knowledge of photography with my canon powershot A50 which was stolen in Australia in July 2003.

First days in New Zealand

The craters of the moon area is located nearby Taupo. The area is still active and in expansion: the steam vents and craters are constantly forming and/or changing. During the walk, it is actually amazing to hear and see the water/mud boiling by imagining that this comes from directly from the centre of the earth. Along the walk you will find plenty of interesting information provided by the DOC about craters, steam vents and mud pools. The walk is very easy and is about 2.75 km long. The path goes clockwise and it is particularly advise to stay on the track. After 10 min, you can turn left to go close to a crater: we could not see anything due to the large amount of steam vents but it is worst to make a detour for the smell. Close to the end there is a possible extra loop called the Ridge lookout loop; the view from the ridge is nice and you will give you a good picture of the area for only a small 36 m of height difference (even though it is quite steep).

We went to see the "Huka Falls" on our way to Upper Hutt

Wiskey was our tom cat and he loved to play on the icy pond.
