Homer Tunnel is the only way to Milford sounds.

I can well imagine why this was placed. In BC they had many pull offs along these steeply inclined roadways to allow cars to pull off to the side to let transport truck pass them.

This landscape is a lot like British Columbia in western Canada (Pacific coast). When we lived there we had some very good friends from N.Z. who were passing through, and like us, stayed a few years :).
