PERU
Peru is arguably the most beautiful country in the world. As a big fan of geography, I know of no other country in the world that can even come close to the climatic and ecological variety that Peru has. Very few countries in the world have huge expanses of desert, snow capped mountains, AND jungle. Peru takes it to the extreme and we managed to see all three. On its long coastline, it has some of the driest deserts in the world, some of the worlds most beautiful canyons and lagoons in Peru's Andes, and Perus Manu has the worlds largest concentration of animal species in the world as well. In addition to Peru's geography, Peru also has one of the most interesting and mysterious histories; massive civilizations such as the Incas, Chimu, and Moche, whose people practiced in the dark arts and human sacrifices, and then were either conquered or disappeared. Some may disagree, but we propose that Peru easily tops the list as the worlds most exotic country. If you don't visit Peru in your lifetime, you've missed out.

We spent most of March 2007 and part of April in Peru, starting in Puno, then Cusco, Iquitos (in the jungle), Trujillo (coast), Huaraz(mountains) and Lima before heading back to Puno and then Bolivia.

BOLIVIA
Carla was born and raised in La Paz Bolivia. After a couple years of
planning we put aside 4 months to vacation down there and visit her hometown as well as many other parts of the country. We visited dozens of different towns and cities. We experienced all of Bolivia's climates and most of the country's departments. As well, we got a good taste of Bolivia's culture, took thousands of pictures, and saw Bolivia's president, Evo Morales. We set aside 4 months to travel between Bolivia and Peru, three of which were spent entirely within Bolivia.

Most of South America has primarily become Westernized, practicing Western style traditions, dress, and culture. Bolivia, however, is the one exception. About 70 - 80 percent of Bolivia's 9 million people are still very traditional, and in many ways live the same life style and wear the same clothes that they have for hundreds of years. Bolivia is the world's Folklore capital beyond doubt, and they pride themselves on it.
