Nice resto and pics- Is there any photos anywhere of DSP 1977/78 cars? I'm building a scale model and sure would like to see the color scheme for those years. Did they use the Plymouth Fury?

Guest Ed Modlin wrote: Friday, July 6, 2007 - 20:29

I guess this is a couple of years before Delaware fell in love with unmarked cruisers. In the mid 60's, each station had one fully marked cruiser, one low profile, and all the rest were unmarked, in either pastel blue, beige or mint green.

The 49 Fords DSP had were the same cars any civilian would buy, they were not pkg. cars then.
DSP bought 55 of them in 1949 and sprung for the extra bucks to purchase the extra cost "Gun Metal Gray Metallic" paint jobs...

The first official "police package" production car offered with specific law enforcement options and accessories was the 1950 Ford. Chevrolet's police duty sedan was released in 1955 and Plymouth's in 1956.

Hmmm...some people are just to smart for their own good.

Guest JW wrote: Friday, December 9, 2005 - 22:39

A lot departments command officers, such as Majors, Captains and Lieutenants will wear a white shirt as well as the chief.

Guest DavidsonCoNC wrote: Friday, December 9, 2005 - 19:11

The officer on the left is probably the chief. In some towns the chief wears a white shirt like in this pic and the "grunts" wear a different colored shirt. Just a guess though.

Just curious but why the different uniforms. Is one a class "A" or dress uniform?

Hey, wasn't that "Greg" guy going to restore one of these?

Yes he was but that "Buz" guy never found him a car to start with.

Thankfully "William" is here folks. He spends his days and nights scouring the copcar.com archives and leaves his stupid comments and moronic replies.

I remember them showing them black and white early police car movies in high school for driver safety, alot of gore in the upper north east ones.

I'm betting that this is a 1962 Chevy.

You're right. I just went by the picture name instead of actually looking at the photo.
