Wow this is absolutely down my alley.  I love the detail, tones and textures with colours along the body.  The big round eyes pop right out at you and add loads of impact to this excellent capture!  So many wonderful photos in your album!   I never tire of a macro shot, there is always so much to discover that the naked eye misses.  Look forward to more!

What a capture, way to go!  I thought the one on the left was in flight but I just looked at your exposure time which was slow.  Is it actually perched on something and just gives the appearance of flight?  Great shot either way.

Is actually in flight. I added a couple of unedited photos from the series at the end of the album. I must have had the camera resting on the ground or a pane of glass surrounding the pond. lol Thank you all the same :)

I wish I knew more about macro photography to offer more than "this is cool" but I can only tell you what moves me. I need to keep coming back to learn to look and shoot like this.

HA! I feel the same way when I view and try to comment on your studio work. I can probably count the times I've used my flash on my fingers and toes. I know nothing about lighting Although, I have toyed with using the flash as "filler" on particularly rough backlit shots. Shooting macros with a lense that was actually made for that purpose has really changed my technique (for the better I think) Because of the shallow dof I have become hyper-aware of dof. I almost always shoot in aperture priority using compensation rather than shutter speed to controle brightness and contrast and I almost always manually focus. I used to compose as if looking down a tube or tunnel. I've begun seeing and composing on planes or series of planes horizontal, vertical and diagonal. May not show in my photos but, that's what's happening. lol
