AMT's '62 Impala SS, with a windshield, dashboard, 4 bucket seats, door panels, console and rear portion of the hood from AMT's '94 Camaro convertible. The tulip panel, folded top and two "up" tops were also taken from the Camaro kit. The "up" top was cut and extended to reach the windshield, and the tulip panel was molded to the trunk of the '62. All side trim was removed with only the rocker panel trim remaining, and the fuel filler door was filled in. The Camaro hood was cut at the nose end, the '62 hood was mated to it, and the grooves from the Camaro hood were extended into the new nose. The Impala doors were filled in, the Camaro doors were scribed in their place, and Corvette photoetched door handles were added. Chassis and engine are stock items from the '62 kit, and the rims and tires are from Aoshima. Paint is Dupli-Color's "Mirage" Purple/Green (10 Color Coats and 3 clear coats) on the body and Model Master Leather for the interior. Impala SS decals were taken from Revell's '64 Impala kit. This one took 7th place in Scale Auto/Mark Gustavson's 9th Annual Custom Clinic Photo Contest. To view Mark's comments, follow this link;

This is an old one that I finally got around to taking some good pictures of. Two Revell kits were used to make this one, a fairly straightforward custom. I added the second set of wheel wells, made a longer tonneau cover, and extended the chassis to match the new longer body. Paint is Model Master Hot Magenta and Tamiya Purple, with flocking in the interior. This was my first entry in Scale Auto's Custom Clinic Photo Contest, and it tied for third place in the Over the Top category. Here's a link to the results;

Well, thanks to Dan at BMC (http://www.briansmodelcars.com), this one came to life. That, and you really can't have a Concept Camaro without a Firebird to show how Pontiac would do it. The building on this one is pretty much a carbon copy of the Concept Camaro, with the lessons learned on the Camaro coming into play on this one. Kits used are the Revell 1998 Firebird and 1968 Firebird. The '68 nose, hood and tailight panel were added to the '98, with the '68 tailight panel getting about 1/16 of an inch removed from the middle to fit the '98 rear end, and Acrylic Fingernail Filler was used to smooth it all out. The spoiler was provided by another BMC member (Ricky), it's from AMT's '69 Trans-Am kit. It was narrowed and cleaned up before installing it in two channels that were cut into the hatch. The front wheel wells had to be enlarged to fit the rims from Pegasus Hobbies, and I swapped out the rear tires for a larger set to try to get the "nose down" look. The fender vents were opened up and a stainless mesh was added, and both grilles were replaced with the same mesh, but painted black. Disc brake rotors are also from Pegasus Hobbies. Chin spoiler is from Revell's '69 Camaro kit with extensions added to wrap around the side to the wheelwells. Dupli-Color supplied the interior colors, and the door panels and carpeting are flocked. The chassis is stock except for trimming at front end to fit the new nose, and the radiator had to be cut down to fit also. Paint is House of Kolors Kandy Silver base with a ghost stripe down the center of the car, which was painted with a custom mixed Kandy Gold. The Silver and Gold base has been topped off with 4 coats of House of Kolors Lime Time and 2 coats of Dupli-Color Clear. Decals are from the '68 Firebird kit (Provided by BMC member Tiffany), with a custom license plate from Keith Marks Graphics. this one is pretty much a carbon copy of the Concept Camaro, with the lessons learned on the Camaro coming into play on this one. This is a Revell 2002 35th Anniversary Camaro kit with a Revell 1969 Camaro nose, grille, hood, and tail light panel. The tail light panel was tipped in at the top slightly, and all the filling was done with acrylic nail filler. It's finally done, it only took nearly two full years. I'm not 100% satisfied with the results (Who ever is?), but I'm done fighting with it. This model started life as Revell's Uptown Charger kit (2006), and changed drastically from there. I started by removing the original roof, and adding one from AMT's 1971 Charger, along with the door shapes from the '71. A new back window opening was made, along with a piece of clear styrene to go into the new opening. Then I stretched the back end out a bit, changed the side window openings to look more like a '73-'74 Charger, and added a grille opening from AMT's 1969 Charger, with a grille from Revell's '69 Charger (Which was supplied by fellow BMC member Brian P). An AMT S-10 Xtreme kit gave up it's chin spoiler, and I made the entire center tail light from a piece of my 1997 Grand Prix's busted tail light. This was to give the back end the "look" of the 1966-67 Chargers. A spoiler was made from acrylic filler, and the wheel openings were shrunk down. Then a Revell Viper kit sacrificed it's engine, and my Shelby Series one (Along with one from fellow Scale Avenue member Tiffany) gave up their cone air filters, and custom tubing was bent for the intakes from solder. After the 7th attempt at painting it Kustom Kolors Purple Passion, I gave up and painted it House Of Kolors Shimrins Tangerine, with a flat black hood and nose. Pegasus Hobbies supplied the rims, new interior panels had to be made for the new two-door configuration, and the chassis plate was stretched out front and rear to fit the new body. New mounting bosses were made to attach the chassis to the body, and photo-etched Charger and R/T scripts, along with the CHARGER lettering on the tail light was added from the Model Car Garage 1967 Charger photo-etched set. To top it all off, I took the side mirror from the '67 photo-etched set, placed it on the quarter panel in front of the spoiler, and called it a gas cap! Enjoy the pictures! This is the repaint of the original (white) model. It was entered in Scale Auto's 10th Annual Custom Clinic Photo Contest, but it didn't make it into the magazine (I discovered a year later it got an Honorable Mention), so I repainted it figuring that was the reason. It looks better in Gunmetal and Ford Laser Red Pearl anyway. Deletions from the white version include the rocker panel trim and quarter panel decals. I still haven't put the PE trim back on this one, since the decals from the original kit were available. Try digging photo-etched scripts out of a tub of Castrol Super Clean and you'll understand why I went with the decals. Honorable Mention), so I repainted it figuring that was the reason. AMT 1971 Dodge Charger customized to be a non-existent 1971 Daytona, this was built for Scale Auto's 10th Annual Custom Clinic Photo Contest. First shot at this one, it has since been repainted. Nose, fender scoops and rear wing are from a AMT 1969 Daytona kit. Added rocker panel trim using styrene strip, Bare Metal Foil was used on all chrome trim. Replicas and Miniatures Company of Maryland provided the Resin rims, resin distributor and vacuum advance. Connected vacuum advance hose to carb, PCV valve is connected . Model Car Garage provided the photo-etched trim, Radio Shack provided the spark plug wiring and fuel filter. Daytona decals on quarter panels are from the 69 Daytona kit, hood "RT" decal is from the 71 kit, added the "Daytona" to hood decal. Hood pins from Detail Master. First use of Acrylic Fingernail Filler, which is all I use for bodywork now. Check your local Sally Beauty Supply for this stuff, it blows Bondo out of the water. If you don't have a Sally nearby, check my links page for their website. fender scoops and rear wing are from a AMT 1969 Daytona kit. | | 2008 Mike Sarris | - Ferrari "346" Scaglietti
-
-
This is my attempt to make the 612 Scaglietti look more like an older Ferrari, smooth and sexy. This one's very subtle, it started life as Revell's 612 Scaglietti kit. I smoothed out all of the harsh body lines, extended the side coves to the rear wheel wells, and reshaped the grille opening so it lost it's "grin". Then I reshaped the front fascia in an attempt to give the fenders a "pontoon" look, and filled in the original "slot" vents under the headlights and re-drilled them as round openings. Then I added insult to injury by shoving an LS6 from Revell's 2004 Corvette Z06 kit in place of the Ferrari engine. Yeah, it's a loss of horsepower, but it's a big plus in the "cool" department as far as I'm concerned. The final step was scratch-building a functional prop rod and hook for the hood. Paint is Alclad Copper and Model Master Metalizer Aluminum, topped with a custom mixed House Of Kolors Clear with 4 drops of Kandy Root Beer concentrate. Four coats of the Clear/Root Beer were applied, then 2 coats of DuPont Nason Clear, which was polished to a blazing shine.
This one was just for fun, and it was. If it offends you, I'm sorry, but you need to lighten up! Nothing is sacred in my world! You can see this one going together in my Builds In Progress folder. body lines, extended the side coves to the rear wheel wells, and reshaped the grille opening so it lost it's "grin".
