Concept Firebird

Well, thanks to Dan at BMC (http://www.briansmodelcars.com), this one came to life. That, and you really can't have a Concept Camaro without a Firebird to show how Pontiac would do it. The building on this one is pretty much a carbon copy of the Concept Camaro, with the lessons learned on the Camaro coming into play on this one. Kits used are the Revell 1998 Firebird and 1968 Firebird. The '68 nose, hood and tailight panel were added to the '98, with the '68 tailight panel getting about 1/16 of an inch removed from the middle to fit the '98 rear end, and Acrylic Fingernail Filler was used to smooth it all out. The spoiler was provided by another BMC member (Ricky), it's from AMT's '69 Trans-Am kit. It was narrowed and cleaned up before installing it in two channels that were cut into the hatch. The front wheel wells had to be enlarged to fit the rims from Pegasus Hobbies, and I swapped out the rear tires for a larger set to try to get the "nose down" look. The fender vents were opened up and a stainless mesh was added, and both grilles were replaced with the same mesh, but painted black. Disc brake rotors are also from Pegasus Hobbies. Chin spoiler is from Revell's '69 Camaro kit with extensions added to wrap around the side to the wheelwells. Dupli-Color supplied the interior colors, and the door panels and carpeting are flocked. The chassis is stock except for trimming at front end to fit the new nose, and the radiator had to be cut down to fit also. Paint is House of Kolors Kandy Silver base with a ghost stripe down the center of the car, which was painted with a custom mixed Kandy Gold. The Silver and Gold base has been topped off with 4 coats of House of Kolors Lime Time and 2 coats of Dupli-Color Clear. Decals are from the '68 Firebird kit (Provided by BMC member Tiffany), with a custom license plate from Keith Marks Graphics.
