The Camborghini (Carolina Panthers Special Edition) -
This one's just for me, I picked up a Tamiya Lamborghini Countach LP 500S from Hobby Lobby on clearance with no intentions other than stealing the rims and tires from it. Then the idea hit me, I need a second Panthers car! So I built this one to honor our new QB, Cam Newton. His second season wasn't as good as I had hoped, but he's still our QB, and I'm still a Panthers fan no matter what! So I came up with a paint scheme, added the Panthers logos on the quarters (Made by Ricky over on Scale Avenue for me!), and a special NC Carolina Panthers vanity plate with "CAM" on it from Best Model Car Parts. Not the best kit in the world, but it was cheap and fun to put together, enjoy the pics! -

1950 Chevy Pickup -
AMT's excellent 1950 Chevy Pickup (Street Machine issue), I went a bit overboard in a few areas on this one. I started with a real wood bed (Top and bottom sides of the bed floor are real wood, I promise!), straight-pins replaced the carriage bolts holding the rear fenders onto the bed, scratch-made taillights, a working gas cap and filler neck, leather covered seat and dash pad, photo-etched gauge cluster and photo-reduced gauges, a photo-etched radio, another straight pin for the glove box lock, a skull shifter, parts box steering wheel, rims and tires, Pegasus Hobbies disc brake rotors, an aluminum distributor from Scale Repros Plus, a bunch of wiring for the engine, a four barrel & intake made up from a parts box intake, and an air filter from a '70 Super Bee pro Street kit. I planned on more details, but just decided to finish it off, I've got a lot going on right now and a long line of kits waiting, so it got completed after being frustrated by the brake lines. -

1975 Matador -
AMT's 1975 AMC Matador kit, I picked this up as a glue-bomb for $22 from Tiny The Modeler up in Benson, NC. It was supposed to be a quick curbside (I couldn't get the engine disassembled), but it dragged out, as most of my builds do. I made my own tail lights, then added the ground effects with sheet styrene and a whole bunch of sanding. Three shades of nail polish were laid down in a modern version of AMC's racing colors, Detail Master's Krome Foil was applied and some funky 3-spoke Pegasus rims finally found a permanent home, along with some Pegasus Aluminum Sleeves to make 'em look bigger. The interior was painted Blue & White, and some Blue flocking was laid down to complete this one! To follow the build up on Scale Avenue, click on the link below!

Jay's '68 Plymouth Satellite -
It's done, the new resin hood is not included (Yet), but once it arrives, I'll paint it and get it to Jay and possibly snap a few more pics. This started as AMT's '68 Road Runner kit. I added the Satellite trim, wheel well trim, vinyl top, a 318 (340 from AMT's '71 Duster) was added and wired, a single snorkel air cleaner was scratch made, flared exhaust tips from aluminum tubing, flocked and foiled interior, a turn-signal stalk and an automatic transmission column shift were scratch-made with some straight pins. Some decals from Keith Marks (His '68 GTX set) were used for the tail lights and dash. Detail Master Krome Foil was applied, and the side windows & vent windows were made from clear styrene. It'll be delivered to Jay next weekend, and hopefully I'll get it entered in a few contests in the near future! -

1932 Ford 5 Window -
This one is my entry into the Revell/Gearz National Model Car championships. It's Revell's '32 Ford 5 Window, with rims from Pegasus Hobbies, a pair of turned aluminum mufflers from The Model Car garage, 30 Gauge wrapping wire (In White) from Radio Shack, and Photo-Etched wire looms from Detail Master. I opened up the roof, then removed the running boards and pie-cut all four fenders, tucking them into the frame, and removed the louvers from the hood sides and added brass mesh to the openings. I cut holes in the side of the frame and added aluminum plates over the holes with cutouts for the exhaust in front of the rear wheels, and made the exhaust pipes from aluminum tubing. The rest of the build is from the box, with flocking in the interior, and Nail Polish from Sally Hansen used for the body, and Nail Polish from Ulta for the interior. -

F-100F Super Sabre - Dec 18, 2010
-
Italeri's 1/72nd F-100F kit, my first aircraft since 1990 when I was still in the USAF. This one's a Christmas present for Pam's Dad. He was a Crew Chief on F-100's at Myrtle Beach AFB and at Phan Rang in Vietnam. I couldn't find a suitable decal set for the 355th TFS , but this kit came with decals for a Myrtle Beach bird from the 353rd TFS, so it'll have to do. I built it as a Static Display bird, because the cockpit was so poorly detailed I didn't want to see it. Not the greatest kit out there, but I'm sure Ed will love it! I made the base from a piece of wood I picked up at Hobby Lobby, and some 1/4" acrylic rod. A little stain, some epoxy, and we're good to go! -

2006 Mustang -
Revell's 2006 Mustang kit, built as part of a "Body Swap" project on BMC (http://www.briansmodelcars.com) with my fellow Revolutionary, Pat. Check out his end of the swap at http://public.fotki.com/mnm1067/ This body was painted by Pat using Tamiya TS-44 over Dupli-Color White primer. Interior was flocked, paint used is Dupli-Color's Grey interior paint and White primer, along with some flat and semi-gloss blacks, and Tamiya Blue. The rest of the kit was painted with various Testors Metalizers and Dupli-Color spray cans. Kit rims were replaced with a set of Cragar S/S's from MRC. Stripe decal was taken from Revell's 1968 Firebird kit, and I don't care that it says "HO" on the decal, I think it looks good, so pbfffft! All in all a very nice kit, just be careful when painting, the plastic used in this kit has a problem with crazing. When you prime or paint one of these, use very light mist coats, and allow some drying time for those before applying wet coats, and you should be fine. -

1951 Henry J Gasser -
This is the Model King re-issue of Revell's Henry J, and it's showing it's age. This is a real dog of a kit, on the level of AMT's worst stuff. Lots of flash, ill-fitting parts, poorly engineered, and that's just the suspension. The box should have "Skill Level 10" plastered across it in 2 inch high letters, just to warn you off. It can be a beautiful build, but the engine definitely needs to go, and a lot of massaging needs to take place before it becomes a show-stopper. This one was just for fun, so nothing fancy was done. The only addition was the battery box in place of the passenger seat, and parts-box decals, since they were really bad too! Paint is House Of Kolors Lemon Yellow with DuPont Nason Clear. -

Dale Earnhardt Tribute -
AMT's 1967 Impala SS427 is the kit, Revell provided the decals. This kit started out on the day Dale died (It was going to be the color of my 69 Camaro SS/RS 396, and it was already painted with the black basecoat). When I saw what happened to Dale, I decided that since I can't build a NASCAR kit worth a damn, I'd get some decals and make this into Dale's car. The opening in the hood for the SS vents was filled and smoothed out, no other modifications were made. Decals are from a Revell kit, wiring and fuel filter are from Radio Shack. Rims and tires are from an old Monogram NASCAR kit, gas tank covered with aluminium foil. Model Master Metalizers are used on the engine, chassis and exhaust. Drilled exhaust, Bare Metal Foil accents in interior, Dupli-Color clear coat. -

2006 Dodge Charger (Carolina Panthers Special Edition) -
Revell's poorly done 2006 "Uptown" Charger kit, I built this one to go alongside my Concept Charger. The color scheme was suggested by a good friend and fellow modeler, Ricky Johnson, who also made the decals for me. If you want a good 2006 Charger kit, grab the Lindberg one, it's 1000 times better than this beast! -

Porsche 959 -
Tamiya's Porsche 959 kit, built as a slump-buster. I won this kit in a raffle at a contest, and was looking for a good, easy kit to get back into building. I chose this one after years of hearing how superior Tamiya's kits were to Revell and AMT, figuring it would be a breeze to build. Big mistake, this thing is garbage. I've actually built AMT kits that were better all the way around than this dog. The body had tons of mold lines, along with nearly every part, and the only assemblies that went together well were the rims and tires and the grille on the rear engine cover, which were excellent. Every other assembly had some kind of fit issue to be dealt with, and the body and chassis are very difficult to get together BEFORE the interior and engine assemblies are in place. Once they're attached to the chassis, have fun getting the wheels centered in the wheel wells. The exhaust system keeps the chassis from seating all the way back in the body, so be ready for some trimming of a muffler. Oh, and the engine cover fit beautifully until the chassis was installed, but now it won't sit all the way down. Throw in the fact that there are no attachment points for the headlight buckets (Have some tape and superglue ready), and you've got a total piece of garbage disguised as a "superior" kit. Unless you really have to have this kit, don't spend the (Average) $45 for it, drop $10 on AMT's '66 Mustang and get the same level of frustration and pocket the other $35. -

2008 Dodge Challenger - Jun 13, 2009
-
AMT's new Dodge Challenger kit, essentially a promo that was put on the market to beat Revell to the punch. Some good points, and some bad, but overall not too bad for a curbside. Painted House Of Kolors Lemon Yellow, and I added "blade" bumpers (Using Detail Master Krome Foil) to the front and rear fascias to get it to resemble the '70 Challenger a little more. Buy this one only if you need it badly, or wait a few more months for Revell's kit. -

2008 Shelby Mustang GT500KR -
Revell's excellent new kit, a true joy to build if you don't lose parts like I did. I lost both hood pins (Replaced with some photo-etched ones) and one of the side badges, so they were left off. The only real complaints I have on this kit is the fit and tiny attachment points of the nose piece to the body, and the upper grille is a real pain to get in without a gap around the hood. But the rest of this kit is very well done, the engine and interior are awesome by themselves. I painted this one using House Of Kolors Silver Kandy Base, topped off with 4 coats of House Of Kolors Shimrins Kandy Purple. The decals gave me a few problems (On the back bumper and back edge of the roof), some of the carrier film came off when I applied Miro-Sol to them, so you may want to clear over them to avoid this problem. All in all an excellent kit, grab yourself one! -

'32 Ford Highboy - Mar 2, 2008
-
Revell's "Goodguys" 1932 Ford Highboy kit, my first-ever 1932 Ford of any style. Not a bad kit, but now I know why I've never built one. Too many tiny parts to break, much like any Model T kit. All in all not too bad though, just not my normal style. All body "ridges" were removed, I never did like the looks of them myself. Fuel line is run from the gas tank to a fuel block on the frame, a switching diode was put in for a fuel filter, and distributed to the carbs via another fuel block on the intake. Intake, carbs and velocity stacks are from AMT's '66 Nova. Resin distributor is from Replicas and Miniatures Company of Maryland, the coil is kit-bashed, and the spark plug wiring is 30 gauge wrapping wire. Rims and tires are an old set I picked up years ago, and I have no clue who made them, if you know, leave a comment telling me where to get more. I WANT MORE OF THEM! Disc brake rotors are from Pegasus Hobbies (I love those things!). A turned aluminum gas cap was added, along with a pewter "Skull" shifter provided by fellow Scale Avenue member Tiffany. Interior was painted with Dupli-Color interior paints (Flat Black and Charcoal Gray), carpeting was flocked, and photo-etched door handles and pedals complete the interior. Body is painted with China Glaze "Vertical Rush" nail polish over white primer. -

Gambler Chopper -
Revell's Gambler chopper kit, my first motorcycle kit, and a real blast to build. I scratch-built the longer forks using Aluminum tubing and the original fork plates and shocks, so the original distance of 7" between the hubs has been stretched to 7 9/16". Then a set of handlebars were bent from Aluminum tubing, the risers were made from Brass tubing, and I rounded off the bottom of the gas tank to give it a smoother look. The paint is House of Kolors "Shimrins" Tru Blue over a Kandy Silver base, with 2 coats of Dupli-Color Clear topping it all off. The decals are from Sally Beauty Supply (They're for Women's fingernails). I stripped the chrome from the engine, transmission, and oil tank, and painted them with Model Master Metalizer Aluminum Plate (Trans & tank), Stainless Steel (Engine highlights) and Flat Black. The rims have accents painted using Tamiya Clear Yellow and Blue, and more Clear Yellow was added to various other parts. The seat has been covered with real leather provided by fellow BMC member Jackman17 ( http://public.fotki.com/jackman17/ ), who inspired me to build one of these after seeing his in person. All in all a great change of pace kit, grab yourself one! -

The Watermelon Truck -
AMT's Sonoma kit, nothing fancy here. My oldest daughter picked the colors and the name. Don't ask why, but I really like this one, in a 1980's neon paint kind of way. Stripes are from Revell's 69 Shelby GT500, paint is Model Master Sublime Green and Hot Magenta, rims and tires are from Aoshima (I think). -

Shelby Series 1 -
This one is from Revell, and it is an excellent kit! The only major problem I had was the radiator piping holding the hood up, and the hood "hinges" had to be cut off because they just didn't work. Otherwise, a beautifully done kit that is a pleasure to build. Paint is Dupli-Color's "Metalcast" Ground coat with 2 clear coats added, and their excellent interior paints were also used. All other paints are Model Master Metalizers in various shades. Polishing was done using a trick I picked up from BMC member Politowic, and the shine is miles deep! Go find yourself one of these gems, you'll enjoy building it! -

1985 Camaro Z28 -
Revell's "Builder 101" Camaro kit, nothing special done, just a straight out of the box build. Paint is Dupli-Color Medium Garnet Red Metallic with Gold on the ground effects and topped off with Dupli-Color Clear. Interior painted with Dupli-Color Desert Sand Vinyl & Fabric paint. Not a bad kit for a beginner, and if you wanted to detail it up, with a little work it could come out really nice. It's basically a snap-together, little or no detail on the door panels, and the dash gauges are just about blank. Built just for fun after the Concept Firebird, no decals or additions, just polished and assembled in 3 days. -

1957 Chevy Pro Street -
AMT's excellent '57 Chevy (From their new tooling) in it's Pro Street variant. Not a whole lot of fancy stuff here, paint is Tamiya Copper airbrushed, engine is wired, vent windows were removed, and foil was added. Tamiya Clear Orange and Clear yellow was used on various chrome parts, don't ask why, I'm just weird like that. Just a quick build from a few years back that I never got around to posting the pics of. These were taken about 5 years ago with my old camera, maybe now I'll get around to snapping some new ones so it looks better.... -

Wrecked #99 Exide Ford -
This model was built by Donald Page, and is on display at Hayes Hobby House in Fayetteville, NC. The wrecked side of the car is an aluminum can that was rolled out, cut to shape, and put in place of the plastic body. It was painted, the decals were applied, and then it was wrecked. This is an incredible piece of workmanship, it really has to be seen in person to be appreciated. A huge thank you to Mike Starling at Hayes Hobby House for allowing me to take these pictures! -
