Muscle Cars

Good old American steel here! Tire frying, gas guzzling horsepower on display. No gaudy wings on these, but lots of stripes!

1969 Shelby GT500

Revell's 69 Shelby GT500 kit, box stock except for the Bare Metal Foil. Paint is Testors Orange Acrylic (From the little 1/4 oz bottles, 4 of them!), no clear coat on this one, just the old polishing kit and wax. This was in Scale Auto's "Reader's Gallery" about 6-7 years ago. And after looking through all my plaques from the contests I've been to, I discovered this one has taken a 1st place, at my very first contest, and two 2nd places since. I'm getting way too forgetful, how could I forget my first? =O

    1967 Impala SS427

AMT's excellent 1967 Impala kit, paint is Model Master Acryl Hot Pink Pearl with Testors Acrylic Aqua used for trim painting. First use of an airbrush on a car model, and first try at a two-tone flocking of the interior. Rims and tires are from AMT's 1996 Corvette kit.

    1971 Dodge Charger

AMT's excellent '71 Charger kit, the only change was the rims and tires, which are from MRC. Engine is wired, Replicas and Miniatures Company of Maryland supplied the resin distributor, Radio Shack provided the wiring and fuel filter. Model Car Garage supplied the wire looms, and the battery was wired using 22 gauge wire. Bare metal foil added to the trim, and the paint is Model Master Go-Mango from a spray can. No clear coats, just polished out. A really nicely done kit, go grab as many as you can find!

    1967 Plymouth Belvedere GTX

This one is completely box stock. It was picked up in a trade with a fellow BMC member (His name was ProStreetBoy if I remember correctly, but it's since been changed.) It was in rough shape, the passenger side of the roof had a large piece that was missing at the B-pillar, the chassis had been cut up for a pro-street rear end, and other problems. After trying to repair the damaged roof numerous times, I gave up and located a new kit. The new kit was molded in metallic blue, and since it had very few swirls in the plastic, I just polished it up with some Meguiars #7 polish, added the Bare Metal Foil, and called it a completed kit.

    1970 Chevelle SS454

Revel-Monogram's "Heavy Chevy" '70 Chevelle, box stock and my only "real" black paint job. That means this is not black primer with a clear coat on it, it's really gloss black paint. Interior is flocked, exhaust tips are drilled out, and Bare Metal Foil added. Just a nice little build done after my '62 Impala custom.

    1970 1/2 Camaro SS454

AMT's Baldwin-Motion Camaro kit, built box-stock, nothing added except Bare Metal Foil, and the side pipes were drilled out to give them a little more realism. I chose the white suspension components just to make them stand out, and because I'm just plain weird sometimes. Another one built between customs so I wouldn't burn-out.

    1967 Corvette Convertible (Stacy)

This one was built as part of a forum project on BMC, based on the movie "Gone In 60 Seconds" (The new one). Everyone picked a car, and got to work duplicating the movie car as closely as possible from what you could see of it in the movie. My kit was from Revell, and I wired the engine, added heater hoses, fuel lines, and battery cables, along with a photo-etched front license plate, license plate frame on the rear, and a plate that I printed (poorly) myself. The interior was flocked, and Dupli-Color Vinyl & Fabric paints were used for the seats, dash & door panels. Body was painted using Spies-Hecker Ford "Laser Red Pearl" and DuPont Nason Clear.

I had a few little problems with the hood decal, the convertible top, windshield, and side pipe covers, but this one was for fun, so I didn't let the little stuff bother me. Oh, and the hood is a different shade, due to the fact it was the THIRD hood (Not the third painting, the THIRD HOOD!!!) I painted for this one, and I forgot the white primer. Like I said, this was for fun, and it was.

    Ed's '69 Plymouth GTX

This one was for my Father-in-law, he bought one when he returned from Vietnam. He had it repainted Candy Apple Green, and drove it like it was meant to be driven. The kit is AMT's '69 GTX, Keith Marks decals were added, interior was flocked, wood grain decals and Detail Mater Krome Foil complete the interior. More Krome Foil outside, a 440+6 under the hood, some scratch-made flared exhaust tips were made from aluminum tubing, and not much else. Other than the screwed up windshield, it came out fine. Ed likes it, so that's all I can ask for!

    Hot Wheels 1971 Javelin

Since there's no reasonably priced Javelin kits out there at this tome, I grabbed a Hot Wheels Javelin, added some Detail Master Krome Foil, a bit of paint, and now have a Javelin to sit in my building area! Someday I'll actually build my Jo-Han Javelin and add a big brother to this one!

    1966 Ford Fairlane

AMT's excellent Fairlane kit, a few minor problems to overcome (See my WIP Album for more info), but nothing major. I removed all scripts and replaced them with decals I purchased from Keith Marks (http://public.fotki.com/mofobow/) and replaced the kit rims with a set from Revell's Viper GTS. Tires were snatched from an aftermarket set of rims, and I laid down a nail polish paint job (Claire's Boutique supplied the "Neon Burst" nail polish). Fuel and brake lines were installed, engine is wired using Radio Shack 30-gauge wrapping wire, a photo-etched radiator cap and battery terminals were added, battery cables were ran, and Detail Master Krome Foil was added. Foil was also used on the interior, and carpeting was flocked. Break out your sunglasses, you're gonna need 'em!

    1968 Firebird

Revell's '68 Firebird, nothing fancy as far as detailing. Paint is nail polish from Sally beauty Supply, but I can't remember the color or manufacturer. Rims and tires were kitbashed, Bare Metal Foil added to trim.

    1969 Torino Talladega
    Jun 3, 2010

Revell's 1969 Torino Talladega kit, built as part of Scale Avenue's first Forum Project, a body swap. Two members are paired up, and they select a kit and paint the body, then send it to their partner. I was paired up with Hemi, and he painted this baby up with a beautiful three-tone color scheme, threw in some killer Aoshima rims, and quite a few more goodies just because that's the kind of guy he is. So I decided I had to go all out on this. It's got a complete braking system, from master cylinder all the way to each rim, a fuel line from the gas tank to the carburetor, battery cables run to the starter and grounded to the frame, spark plug wiring, a turned aluminum distributor and coil, photo-etched wire looms, door locks, door lock knobs on each door, flocking, and an interior painted in the same colors as the body. Throw in my standard for disc brake rotors (Pegasus Hobbies, love those things!), aluminum foil for the back window and drip-rail molding, and some Detail Master Krome Foil (Thanks again Shiryl!) for the windshield, tail light panel and trunk trim and we've got one sweet ride! Enjoy the pics, and go check out Hemi's half of the project by clicking on the link below, he got a three-tone 1970 Torino Cobra that he did an incredible job on!

    1970 Mustang Boss 429

Revell-Monogram's Boss 429 kit, this was my first attempt at a top to bottom fade. Aftermarket rims and tires (I think they came from American Satco, but if you know who made these, please post a comment), Radio Shack wiring for the engine. Model Master Metalizers for engine details, Model Master Acrylics used for the body.
