Graduation Weekend
May 26, 2003

I took pictures (and the Pope went to Mass last Sunday) at graduation weekend not only of our darling daughter, Joanna, but also of my favorite team -- the twenty+ graduating seniors from the track & field and XC squads.

Not only was Joanna graduating, but it was Dana's 30th reunion, and our daughter Emily's 5th reunion.

The pictures here are of graduating seniors, various track & field/XC alumni, and some of our family.

Most of the pictures of our family are in the Grossman Personal folder.

I've posted all the pictures I have. Have a good summer!

Heps at Yale May 3 & 4, 2003
May 4, 2003

Dana and I were the announcers at the Heps. We introduced virtually every athlete in every running event and every field event. We had prepared short highlight sheets for 309 of the 800 or so athletes who were entered. We sorted those sheets before each event, and read the highlights as we introduced each athlete.

I started to take a few pictures--the few you see here. Then things became too hectic, and I had to stop.

Another season winds up. It's my fourth for taking pictures. I've had a good time. I hope you've enjoyed the pictures.

(People ask about prints. You can order prints from Fotki. I don't have anything to do with that. I don't get any revenue from these pictures. I take them and post them because I like to. In fact it costs me a few dollars a month for the site. If you want to print something yourself, e-mail me and I can send my image.)

Brown Home Meet 4-27-2003
Apr 27, 2003

(All the pictures I took are posted as of Monday night, 4/28/30.)

The rain stopped and the clouds dissipated, leaving sun and temperatures in the 70s.

As is our custom, Dana, Joanna, and I officiated at this meet, after putting up the tents. I drew clerking and running the men's shot put for my tasks.

That meant that I was able to move around and take pictures while I was clerking. I was out of circulation for about an hour during the men's meet while I did the shot put.

UConn Women 04-18-2003
Apr 18, 2003

At UConn, the women compete on Friday, and the men compete on Saturday. We only went to the women's meet.

I began posting most of the pictures on Saturday night. Our younger daughter, Joanna, had come home from Brown to hunt for Easter baskets. I posted pictures while she and a gentleman friend colored Easter eggs. This will be the 27th--and probably last--time the Easter bunny will have visited Grossmanor.

I got up Sunday morning and posted the rest of the pictures before the young people even awoke. (Which isn't saying much!)

The first two pictures were selected by demand. The athletes demanded the picture of K. Kosub starting the 200. Ms. Kosub ran everything but the concession stand at this meet. (Actually it was one athlete's pitiful bleatings that convinced me to post this first. Ms. Kosub had nothing to do with it. It's still a nice picture, says I.)

The second picture, with the athletes laid out like fish on ice watching the triple jump, was one that I liked, so I demanded that it be posted.

As always, you are welcome and encouraged to e-mail me with your comments about which pictures you like or don't like or whatever.

Brown Home Meet 4-12-03
Apr 12, 2003

Because my wife Dana '73, our daughter, Joanna '03, and I are all USATF certified officials, we officiate at Brown home meets. We aren't able, therefore, to do much spectating or photographing. (Joanna has been helping at Brown meets since she was 14, when our older daughter, Emily, was a freshman! Joanna became a certified official at 16, one of the youngest in the country.)

I officiated at the hammer and discus throws. I started weigh-ins of the implements at 10:00 am, and then conducted the events from 12:00 to 7:15 p.m.

The venues for these throwing events are just outside the stadium, so I didn't even get to see much of meet, or the athletes.

At one point I popped over during a break to make sure the tent had not blown down, and one of the athletes said, "Where have you been all day?"

Because it rained until mid afternoon, I didn't take any pictures in the 10-minute breaks I had while flights warmed up.

I finally took a few pictures at the end of the day, mostly of throwers. Notice the glorious blue sky in many of the pictures that came out at the end of the day.

I expect to take lots of pictures of the women at UConn next Friday.

Dartmouth Snowout 4-5-2003
Apr 4, 2003

Be glad. Be very, VERY glad that this meet at Dartmouth was cancelled. We live 10 miles north of Dartmouth. We had 8 to 10 inches of snow on Friday night. Then there was rain, sleet, and freezing rain all day Saturday.

Here are a few pictures of Dartmouth's track, taken the day the meet would have been, as sleet was coming down.

Heps At Dartmouth Mar. 1 & 2, 2003
Mar 2, 2003

I finished uploading all the pictures on Tuesday night at about midnight.

We live 15 minutes from Dartmouth. We had the whole team over for dinner on Friday night! The little darlings ate like wolves.

I took pictures at the Heps only on Sunday.

We went to Maine on Saturday to celebrate Dana's father's 80th birthday, so I couldn't take pictures that day.

The first picture is of Barry Harwick, coach at Heps host Dartmouth. I promised him I'd put his picture first.

You see lots of pictures of officials and Dartmouth people. I was Chief of Officials at Dartmouth for three years, so I know all of these people. Also, at both Heps last year I made a point of taking pictures of the officials at the Heps and posting them on the Web site. Little enough recognition for all that they do.

Harvard 2-23-2003
Feb 23, 2003

Not all of the Brown athletes competed in this meet. Harvard has a cage around it's throwing areas, so I was not able to take any good pictures of the throwers.

I've uploaded all of the pictures I took as of 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday 2/25/2003.

I've uploaded all of the pictures I took, as of 2/18/03.

The team was split this weekend. Some competed in New York, and some competed at Boston University. I went to Boston.

There were several alumni and alumnae at this meet, some of whom were competing.

As of 7:30 p.m. on Monday, 2/10/2003, I have uploaded all the pictures I took.

These are the first photographs I have taken at an indoor meet with this camera, and I'm still trying to get the exposures just right.

Most of the pictures of women were taken with a setting that makes those pictures more grainy.

Most of the pictures of women were taken with no flash, and most of the pictures of men were taken with a flash.
