Have you ever wanted a classic car without the classic problems?
Restomod is simply not an acceptable word to describe this incredible car. Imagine the iconic lines of the much admired 1966 Mustang Fastback, a muscle car look that few have ever improved upon. Now take the heart and soul of a 2001 Ford Cobra SVT, with its lightweight aluminum 32 valve DOHC Fuel Injected engine, 5 Speed transmission, and Fully Independent Rear Suspension, and meld the two together to create the magnificent car you see here.
This project started life as a rust free, A code 289 4 Speed in Rangoon Red out of Atlanta GA in exceptional condition. After driving it a few thousand trouble free miles, I kicked around the idea of doing something special to this car, trying to keep its stock appearance but update it mechanically, in the popular “restomod” style. One day I picked up a copy of the Tony Huntimer book, “How to Build Ford Restomod Street Machines” and immediately noticed a major feature on a shop in the Seattle area, known as The Mustang Shop. (www.themustangshop.com)They had completed a 4.6l Cobra transplant on a 65 Mustang Fastback, and after speaking to the shop owner & visionary behind the company, Bryan Fuller, I decided to give my car the same treatment.
One year and many $’s later, the car you see here was delivered. When you approach the car, you know that something is different, but the clues are subtle. The car sits low on huge rubber that is all stuffed well inside the body, thanks to custom made rear control arms and custom offset Team III 17 x9 wheels. Turn the key once and the low hum of the sophisticated engine management system comes to life, turn it further and the sound you hear is unlike any 66 Mustang you have ever heard! The SVT engine lights off immediately, routing all that sweet sound of power through the short tube headers, S/S Magnaflow exhaust system. Ease the Tremec 5 Speed into 1st, and a few seconds down the road will find yourself with a great big stupid grin on your face. The car has enormous power, handles like it is on rails, stops incredibly well, and sounds like a dream. Take a close look at the detailed pictures below, and read the list of detailed specs, and you will understand how much thought and work went into this project.

The exterior body is essentially stock in appearance except for the large Le-Mans style filler cap in rear. The car is still in its original Rangoon Red color, paintwork is exceptional show car lacquer that is approx 8 years old. This was a complete strip to bare metal, all rubber, glass and trim removed very high quality paint job, however a few minor stone chips, a small stress crack at trunk lock, and one small area of surface bubble on lower door are noted. The paint is stunning in all other respects, and shows incredibly well on the closest of inspection. Ice Cold A/C, Power Steering, Power Windows, Power Door Locks all add up to complete the theme of classic looks and modern reliability / comfort.
