Cabo da Roca (Cape Roca) - Portugal - The Flora   RSS GeoLocation
Cabo Da Roca, also called Focinho Da Roca (Roca Snout), is the most western point of continental Europe. It lies on the Atlantic coast of Lisboa district, about 40 km distant from Lisbon. Known to the Romans as Promontorium Magnum, the cape is a narrow granite cliff, forming the western end of the Sintra Mountains.
Not only the cliffs must be admired in Cabo da Roca. The special characteristics of the soil originated unique vegetation which is part of Sintra-Cascais Natural Park.
I invite you to cover with me the narrow tracks and to dive into this gorgeous Nature! Smell the flowers!

This is just magnificent. Best sunset/water photo I've ever seen :).

Thank you, Barb! It's nice to read this because I like the shot but I'm not good evaluating photos quality...

Very beautiful :)

These rocks look like sandstone or glacial deposits.

******************
I guess there are both here.

Gorgeous flowers. We don't have those on our coastline. It's way too cold for that.

*****************
In Winter it can be really cold and windy here too!

This is so much like our shoreline it's scary. http://public.fotki.com/banjon/2007/nova-scotia/annapolis-valley/blue-beach/bluebeach09.html

This area is a mixture of granite, slate, sandstone, and hardened red clay. The deterioration process is well on the way as you can see in the rest of the album. I can see you are facing the same problems. The Atlantic is becoming more and more fierce - especially the North Atlantic where we are.

*********************
We had a lot of problems a bit everywhere in our coast, recently. Near me, in Costa da Caparica, the sea is gaining more and more space to the land. Most of the beaches in the area are losing all the sand, and walls are being constructed, trying to protect houses, villages, camping parks (which have already been flooded just a month ago)...
In the future the situation may reach dramatic proportions.
The photo in your site is really amazing, I'll visit all the album soon.

LOL so are we always on the edge. Beautiful shorline photo.

This looks very much like our shoreline. Check out the picture we took that is similar to this one only at low tide. http://public.fotki.com/banjon/2007/nova-scotia/annapolis-valley/medford-paddys-island/medford16.html

The land is quickly eroding and the path is very unstable. We had to be very cautious while on the path too :)

*****************************
I couldn't get an idea of the height in your shot. Here I was at about 140 m from the sea level, so, I was really careful:)

That's the largest lighthouse I've ever seen.

Yes, not too tall, but it is large.

Paradise is where the ocean and sky meet ... seamlessly. The landscape is wonderful!

On the way down to the beach?

*****************
There are some small beaches between the cliffs, but I haven't tried to go down there this day. There was so much to capture around me!

A marvelous lightouse scene. Looks to be very rugged terrain. Very much like here in Nova Scotia only I 'll bet the water is much warmer :)

*******************
Probably it's warmer than in Nova Scotia, but it's not the warmer water in Portugal... In fact, in Portugal I only like to bath in Algarve:)
