Petty Nascar Roadrunner

The year, somewhere 1973 I figure, and my local camera/hobby shop decided to sponcer a model car contest. One prize only, winner gets a trophey and $15 in merchandise, ...... so I enter. Oh, you had to buy the model there also. I purchase a Petty Roadrunner .... and guess what? ..... I win. My first ever trophey. Well I still have the trophey but the Nascar Roadrunner is long gone.

Fast forward: Atlanta NNL, 2008 .... I find a built Petty Nascar Roadrunner in the box for $25. Time to rebuild my first trophey car.

"WICKED" My Ridler Award Model Build

This custom build will be based on the Minicraft 1/16 scale 1936 Mercedes 540K.

My vision and goal will be to build a scale model of a car, capable of winning what many consider to be the most prestigious automotive customizing award in the world, the "RIDLER AWARD"

So follow along over the next few months, or however long it takes, and we'll see just how the transformation goes. All she has now is a name, "Wicked". The rest will be established as time rolls on.

Predator Construction Site (One of my long term projects)

.
UPDATE: 10/10/09

I've got to finally get this one finished. First show will be the NNL East in April of 2010.

This project started life years ago when Scale Auto Enthusiast Magazine announced their Alumnacoupe contest.

The contest was based on the new Testors Alumnacoupe. Start with this kit and do what ever you want with it.

Well I started getting into too much detail and knew I would never make the deadline, so I decided to just go all-out on it. I figure it's about 65% finished now.

Porsche 936
Mar 8, 2007

Here's a quick one, started back in Feb., right after our 24 hour Lemans build. Guess I was in a Lemans building mood after our 24.

Some modifications:
To the body ... The side scoops were only an 1/8" deep to allow for a the 4 "AA" batterys that would power the electric motor. Yeah right! There gone and the scoops were rebuilt to their proper depth. Screens will be added soon. The front scoop was shaped wrong and attached to the main body. Changed and modified, made a seperate item and reshaped to be correct.

I never did like molded in light details, so their all gone. Replaced with aluminum rings and clear units.

Lots of other smaller changes I'll get into later.

I'd like to thank Pat Redmond and Bart Orlans for donating the correct wheel baskets to this project, and Kevin at Strada Sports for donating some missing "Jules" decals left off the Studio 27 decal sheet.

Total time on this one should be about 65 to 75 hours. Look for completion sometime in early August.

Corvette

I've been tinkering on this one for over a year now, and with the time I've put into it, I feel it deserves it's own album now.

I found this built model in a bag under a table at a swap meet. The wide fenders caught my eye. I think its a snap together Revell item. The simplified frame and suspension were chucked, and I'm mounting the body on a 69' Revell chassis but haven't decided on a power-plant yet. Mostly body work up to this point.

Scooby Van Costruction Site

.
This site contains the modification of Polar Lights Scooby Van kit, into something a little more radical. Yet another club project. A couple of cases of Scooby vans were donated to our club by the good folks at Polar Lights for this project. A good number of them got completed, but being the slacker I am, ...... well.

To see the others that got completed by our non-slacking club members, check out the "Members Showcase" at our club website at http://ncwvsm.freeservers.com/

Tell me, should I have Jimmy Flintstone cast off this body for sale to the public before I lay down some paint?

**** MY TOP SECRET, ALL OUT, DIORAMA MODELING PROJECT ****

.
UPDATE: 5/22/08

I'm up to about 240 hours into this so far and everything is turning out great. I have not touched this project in about a year now but now that I've finished the bug this project is getting the attention it deserves. **********************************

I'm still working on that very unique frame right now as well as the base. For those of you that have access to my photos ..... enjoy.

For those that don't, ....I could tell you what it is, or show you photos of what's in here, but then it wouldn't be as much fun for me. I'm just trying to keep this one quiet for a while.

When this project is complete, this file will be unlocked for all to see.

I hope it will do very well at it's first major contest, and set well in the minds of everyone.

I hope your all curious by now.

You can tell by the increasing number of photos that I am making progress.

This project will take huge amounts of time. I'm figuring upwards of 1000 hours.

Just keep checking back for updates. Thanks!

300ZX PRO Street Construction Site (Another Long term project)

.
OK, I love working with brass. A few years ago I decided to build a PRO Street Nissan 300ZX. A plastic chassis would just not do (as I learned working on my Diablo Funnycar).

I wanted to support all the opening doors and hatch, as well as the front clip from the chassis as the real car would be. I needed a rigid frame.

So here it starts. I figure it's only about 20% complete and I have around 150 hours in it.

Lamborghini Diablo Funny Car (Another long term project)

.
Even before work began on my 300ZX Pro Street car, I had started on a rear engine Funny Car covered with an altered Lamborghini Diablo Body.

I think this car is one of the reasons I started building my tube frames in brass. This frame is scratch built from plastic rod and is a bit flexable, to much for me but still acceptable.

A lot of work has gone into this car, and I figure the frame/chassis to be 75% complete.

The body is near 60%. I've even gone as far as producing dozens of photoetch parts for this car.

Time to restart work on her.

1929 Woody Street Rod Construction Site

.
Now here's a real oldie. I had started on this project back when DC Comics put the stops to my Batmobile (can I say that yet?) project.

If you want to check out the article I did on the Batmobile back in the December 1991 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast Magazine #76, you will see I mention starting on this project.

Well here it is, over 13 years later, and it's still not finished.

I just thought I'd throw the pictures on this site to show you.

ISUZU VEHICROSS SHOW TRUCK PROJECT
Apr 27, 2005

.
Take 1 Tamiya Isuzu Vehicross. Add huge amounts of power, a mild lift, and oversize Super Swamper tires. Install a killer sound system capable of blowing the roof off. Throw in tons of custom parts, and you end up with what I hope to have here, a truck that looks like it just rolled off the floor at SEMA.

Enjoy.

Toyota Double Cab Longbed

.
Toyota has been building a double cab truck for some time now. It's only made it's home here in the US for a few years now.

Aoshima made a model of the early 90's version that was only available for the Japanese market.

I've always like this Toyota truck, but it only came available with that little 4' bed. I wanted a more manly version of this truck, capable of hauling ATV's and beer kegs.

It must also be able to climb the side of a barn if I see fit to, and powerful enough to blow the doors off those little Hondas with the 10 inch diameter exhaust and 24 inch wheels sod with nothing more than wide rubberbands.

Well here she is, my version of that truck.

1/12 Harley, Club Project

.
So the club got together one meeting night, and decided to build Imex Harley motorcycle kits for the next club project. We got assortment cases of them at a fantastic price.

Rules:
(1) The engine had to be from the Imex kit.
(2) I think it also had to have 3 wheels or less.
(3) I think we had almost a year to complete them.
(4) There are no other rules.

I chose one of the two chopper versions. This was a few years ago, and as you can see, mine never got completed. I think I bit off more than I could chew on this one. Anyway I hope to have it finished someday.

To see the others that got completed by club members, check out the "Members Showcase" at our club website at http://ncwvsm.freeservers.com/ Scott did a fantastic job on his and we still need to get pictures up of the others.
