The top of the Duomo is not for those who fear heights or dislike tight spaces. The journey to the top passes through the double shell of the dome, spiraling around all the way to the cupola for a 360 view of Florence.

Aalto's lone work in Italy is this church in Riola. Located about 45 min outside Bologna in the Apennines Mts.

The sister city to Florence, Bologna once guarded the pass over the Apennines mts. Today it is known as a city of loggias.

Pronounced Fe-a-so-l-a, this Etruscan hill town overlooks Florence. The town predates Roman Florence.
