I too worked at Greengate, only in the early 80's when AN Malik was in his prime. I recently ran into a couple who have some Spanish Arabians and it brought it all back to me. The elegance and temperment just can't be matched, and certainly, the horses bred at GG met the highest standards. It's a treat to go back in time and see the legacy that AN Malik left behind. He was a special sire.

AN Malik was a wonderful flea bitten grey stallion with a gorgeous head and neck. I worked at Greengate farm for six years, the last years of his life. He was sweet, gentle and elegant and I will always miss him.

I have a MATADOR PF daughter, son of ANACACHO and GRANADA I. I am not sure if that is a similar bloodline to GG MATADOR.

This horse looks like it's glowing. The way the sunlight reflects off it's coat and shines, the horse looks like it's an angel descending down from heaven. I don't have any horses but I've been around them my whole life, and this stallion is the most beautiful i've ever seen.

Hi!

I own one of AN MAlik's son's: Bandh Malik. He is one of the most precious horses I have ever owned. He's a chestnut with three white socks. He is 22 - but has the energy and personality of a very young horse. I would love to get in touch with anyone else who owns a "relative" to Malik.

what a wonderful horse!!! although i fear he looks a little taller than the "true" arab, but it's nothing to worry about. perhaps he looks a little taller because of his wonderful pose. i really love the way he arches his neck, it makes him look so proud and strong. i would love to have an arabian that is so beautiful.

I just purchased an AN Malik grandson, named G Command (also a grandson of Cognac, and is a son of "Artillery", who sold in 1984 for $80,000 at a Lasma Arabian sale) and this line is renowned for wonderful temperaments! You would never know he's a stallion! What an awesome personality! I would love to hear from anyone regarding these horses! Thanks! Mo

This horse is a grey. A grey can be born any color, and the grey gene simply leeches the pigmentation out of the skin. A grey can range from pure white to almost black. Secondly, NO PUREBRED ARABIANS CARRY THE CREAM GENE. The cream gene, which is responsible for buckskins, palominos, and cremello/perlinos does NOT exsist in arabians. Neither does champagne or dun. You can find out more about equine color genetics at http://www.equinecolor.com/

This stallion is called a flea bitten grey. The reason that I know is because I worked for Green Gate Farms and I owned one of his daughters (An Malika Mtoto). She has now passed on but was one of the best animals I ever met. I miss her very much, she was an endurance horse and as she became older she was my best lesson horse.

Hi. Beautiful pic! Love the way the early morning sun is shining off his back and tail!
About greys; you are correct that white horses with black skin and are not born with white coats but dark, however it is not always black, They may also be born a shade of chestnut or bay even have pinto markings, but also carry the grey gene so they turn gradually white, some sooner than others. I recently learned there is no such thing as a true albino horse (No pink eyes) The white horses with pink skin that are born white are usually very light cremellos.

Guest Leah wrote: Monday, April 7, 2003 - 1:32 AM

if the horse looks white, it is usually still considered a grey, because of the skin color. grey horses are born black and get lighter as they get older, but sometimes there are younger white-color horses. white horses have pink skin, and grey horses have black skin. albinos have no pigment, with a white coat, pink skin, and reddish-pink eyes. if you have any questions, email me, but im still a beginner so i may not be able to answer everything. just thought i'd let you kno, that horse is still a gray.
