My wife and I just bought Pistol this weekend. What a sweetheart. I too am interested in any information available on Akid Mandalay.

I fell in love w/this horse as a 4th grader reading our library copy of the Western Horseman mag. He died in a stable fire at Wayne Newton's place. I hated WN all of my life because of it! Not long ago, I saw a bio. of him on A& E or similar, and saw what a remarkable person he truly is. He has done great things for the Arab stock in the US I believe. What a legacy Aramus has left....I have pined for this horse all my life and just found this photo last night. I am so grateful to the webmaster of this site for sharing these photos. Of course I tried the Arabian Horse Registry site, but you can't look for anything there without being a member, and i don't even own a horse......

I came across this site and wondered if Davanna Pistol's sire was the Akid Mandalay that was owned by Alan and Terry Perkins from GA? I have a 16 yr old mare and a 15 yr old gelding that are out of that sire. Was trying to find out what ever happened to Akid and thought I would see if you knew anything.

Yes, it is Mert. A wonderful horseman, trainer and personal friend who has shown many of my horses in the past. Both he and Kristie Stevens, co-trainer superb, have ridden many of my horses to Championships - one that stands out in my mind is the pure Polish mare, Corisa.

Rider is Mert Sartre of Hy-Tyme Stables in CT. Mert showed Del Taureen to his National Championship.

Does anyone know if this was taken at the Old Dominion Endurance Ride? It looks like that could be the Vanderbilt House/Castle in the back ground. I think, but am not sure of, that this ride goes past there....but I am not from the area, therefore not totally familiar with the ride.
