Sandhamn (Swedish for "Sand Harbour") is a small settlement in the central-peripheral part of the Stockholm Archipelago approximately 50 km east of Stockholm.
One of the most important natural ports in the archipelago with easy access to the Swedish capital, Sandhamn has been popular for pleasure boating since the late 19th century. It is known for its tavern, its clubhouse, and, not the least, its harbour.
While the settlement only has a hundred permanent inhabitants, the number of residents increases to 2-3,000 during the summer. Sandhamn receives an additional 100,000 visitors annually. -

Sigtuna - vikings' motherland -
Sigtuna, Sweden’s oldest town, is an attractive small town with picturesque wooden houses, winding lanes, gardens and attractive shops and cafés. A millennium ago, Sigtuna was the most important town in the country. It was founded around 980 AD by Olof Skötkonung who built a royal hall in the middle of the town. The first Swedish coins, were minted there.
The city also has church ruins and a brick church from the Middle Ages, buildings from the 18th and 19th centuries and the Town Hall built in 1744, the smallest in Scandinavia. -

Vaxholm -
Vaxholm is, despite its small population, for historical reasons normally still referred to as a city. According to Statistics Sweden, however, only localities with more than 10,000 inhabitants are counted as cities.
The name Vaxholm comes from Vaxholm Castle, which was constructed for defense purposes, by King Gustav Vasa. -

Volvo Ocean Race 2008/2009 - Jun 19, 2009

The Volvo Ocean Race is a yacht race around the world, held every three years. It is named after its current owner, Volvo.
Though the route is changed to accommodate various ports of call, the race typically departs Europe in September or October, and in recent years has had either 9 or 10 legs, with in-port races at many of the stopover cities. The current race started in Alicante, Spain, on October 11, 2008. The route for the 2008-2009 race has been altered from previous years to include stopovers in the Middle East and Asia for the first time. -
