reets, houses, buildings are now gone replaced by significant new construction and landscaping of the UIU Campus of recent years. The Campus has spread out taking the blocks to the south and the fields to the east. The business community has degenerated from dozens to a few. The village population about half. The schools are gone with a few grades in a neweer building. Pictures around Fayette over the past few years can be found other albums to include the All-Cardinal albums. My ggGrandfather, Reuben Hunt, Sr., came from Oxfordsire Co, England, to Fayette in 1855/56 as a mason to work on the building of the college Seminary. He ended as the head mason on the building of the Seminary, later called College Hall, now Alexander Hall. Reuben built a home on the three lots where the old railroad viaduct pillars and the car wash stand in 2009. His male offspring were all masons, with two remaining in Fayette for life farming along and south of College Hill. Reuben went to Ames to work on the first building on the ISU Campus immediately after the Seminary was completed, then returned to Fayette for the remainder of his life. UIU educated dozens of my family, collateral surnames and their friends. I left Fayette to graduate from ISU but to this day wish I had remained at UIU. I literally 'lived' on the campus during my school years, being able to sneak into any building at any time, to swim, play ball, look at science specimens, have a free snack, roam the empty classrooms. 09) of Freeport, Winneshiek Co, Iowa. A distant cousin on the Catherine Strayer line, who was the sister of my gggrandfather John Strayer. The Strayer's were original pioneers and millwrights of Freeeport, with numerous descendents attending UIU and staying in NE Iowa and Fayette. Lila remains owner of the origianl Sheetz/Strayer farm on the Upper Iowa River just to the north of Freeport. iowaz@hotmail.com
