| | | - Mt Pleasant Cem & Church Pike Co Missouri
- A photo survey of Mt. Pleasant Cem, Peno Twp, Pike Co, MO, starts in the SW corner. The cem. was walked five times S to N. Mt. Pleasant has not been maintained for many decades so it is impossible to follow rows without using a lot of marking and flaging, thus more time than could be now budgeted as this project has taken over 35 hours to date. This is a walk-through survey going to the nearest plots/markers during each round. The primary objective is to save a photo record as of 2007. A secondary objective is make some of the material available to others. The file names show the marker name placement in a series of pics. There is no index to the photos, they have to be browsed to locate names, markers of interest. The church remains are on the north end of the cemetery and certainly was one of the finest brick churches of its time. If a marker was not found, one can assume an old burial is near others of the family. There are many unmarked graved and sunken graves. The ground is quite soft in this area and some of the pics show what generally happens when in good faith families put a newer, large granite marker in place. Heavy markers often topple into the grave and start to sink out of site. This is one of the most interesting cemeteries I have been around, and has numerous original pioneers of the area. Burial listings blending the old with the 2007 survey are found on this page http://www.iowaz.info/mopike/mopikemtpleasantcem.htm
