The beginning of my hair journey. Timing was great - just after I gave myself a fourth BC in under 2 years after messing with my hair (again), I discovered Fotki and the black haircare forums - all ...more thanks to the wonderful Mrs McElwee (Mcelweewife) whom I found via a blog I was browsing! Small world. Funny how things interconnect so simply and yet in a life changing manner! Stay blessed Mcelweewife! - Album was created 1 year 11 months ago and modified 1 year 10 months ago

Mostly wearing hair in braids which I'll take out end of March if I can last that long. Will probably take out during the Easter break 21st-24th March.
Update - didn't last till the date mentioned ...more above, lol. Took the braids out a week early, at exactly 4 weeks, so not too bad. I think 4 weeks is a good amount of time to wear braids for my hair - there was matting and a lot of shedding and breakage. I do have my work cut out and I hope I find a regimen that works well for my hair...
**More update - More March photos to come - I seem to be doing my updates in arrears so to speak. keep checking, I'll finish uploading when I get a chance- the pics are taken, it's a time issue!

Started April wearing twists (see March album). Plan to take these off 10/4/08. I'll do a henna something (treatment or gloss), then I'll put in more twists.
***** Change of mind - I'm 'repairing' ...more my current twists as needed, so when one comes lose, falls off (as they often do during washing/rinsing lol), I re-do it as 2. They're looking good with time, are filling up nicely and I'll definitely keep them going for a while longer. I'm beginning to really like the hair pieces especially as I'm getting better at handling them. Photos soon!...***
***Itchy and tender scalp, so twists came out 19/4/8.

Okay, took out twists as my scalp was unbelievably itchy and sore. Still sore and itchy inspite of the fact I'm washing at least 3x/week. And my hair seems to be breaking and / or shedding more and ...more it's less moisturised too. Why, I wonder?.. **whispers** (neglect, sigh). So, I've decided, no more extensions for a while - I'll try the ayurvedic stuff and wear it in a TWA and perhaps finger twists and baggied. Damn bad hair periods! 1st stop, henna treatment today (30/4 - 1/5) followed by a moisturising deep condish with avocado, coconut cream and castor. This trx did my hair good. Scalp still tender but trying to leave alone.
**Mid May - another henna gloss trx followed by a DC. Almost daily full head baggies. Scalp issues persist but seem better. Generally lazy about hairdos but sticking it our with the co-washes, moisturizing, spritzing and baggying. Wore hair in lazy chunky braids hidden under a wig for a good 3 weeks in May!
**End of May - Had a hair and scalp consultation at adornment and also comb twists. I was impressed! My lady, Sophia reckons my scalp is dry and advised to oil at least 4x/week and carry on with what I'm doing though probably co-wash only every other day as opposed to daily but continue the daily herbal rinses and seal with my natural oils and butters as I do already. I'll keep experimenting till I find what works for hair and scalp but at this time, as I write this, hair is doing fine, scalp feels better and twists are 3, actually, 4 days old. 24 days to go - maybe till I take them down - if I last that long! Till June, stay brightly blessed!!! - Album was created 1 year 9 months ago and modified 1 year 8 months ago

Had twists done with human hair extensions on the 24th of June. I'm late uploading these pics on Fotki but as I type (4th August '08) the twists are still holding their own and are looking more and ...more more natural. I think trouble's brewing though, so click on the August album, see how I manage the inevitable tangles (yikes!) - Album was created 1 year 6 months ago and modified 1 year 6 months ago

I'll try take a picture a day if I can from now on, as leaving so many not uploaded makes this a chore - which it shouldn't be! So, I'm still loving my hair, twists are still in situ and tomorrow ...more (August 5th) makes 6 weeks! Need them out in the next week or two though, so watch this space! - Album was created 1 year 6 months ago and modified 1 year 6 months ago

Been so busy peeps and I have not been taking pics as I should have, sigh. My hair since September has been mostly in twists/twistouts which I've kept in ranging from a week to 3-4 weeks. Weekly ...more retwisting takes its toll on my very tender scalp so that's out - cannot do it (ouch!). 3-4 weekly twists/twistouts I love and they look good BUT detangling is a trip to hell. I need to find a balance. I think my length is approx. 3.5-4.5 inches, but I'm so poor at estimating, it might be shorter... or longer - we'll see on my nappiversary in Feb! Plan is to get twists done with extensions for the ultimate winter PSC - looking for suitable hair pieces is a challenge, but I refuse to buy the very overpriced human hair - for now... The search continues. Treatment wise - Not been as attentive as I ought to be but I do quickie strengthening+moisturising treatments at least fortnightly - prepoo with coconut oil (trying to finish the vatika I bought as I've gone off the smell - weird), wash with some artisan ABL which I absolutely love (will add this to my products album), and apply a moisturising condish with silk peptide added, cover for an hour or 8 , rinse and moisturise with shea whipped with aloe vera, glycerine, castor. I apply neat lavender or teatree EO to my scalp (caution with EOs, these are pretty much the only 2 that can be used neat!). I've had one henna treatment and I'm sure my hair's craving another... Hair mostly looks good but I see knots and splits which I cut off as I see them. Till next time peeps, I wish you all the brightest of blessings and happy hair growing! - Album was created 1 year 2 months ago and modified 1 year 2 months ago
