Glenn's Cabin w/ the Sutherlands

I was having fun with a new lens while in Leavenworth. Unfortunately, my pictures are mostly of my kids and not much else (ie you wouldn't even know that Jennifer & Gavan were there!). I mostly sat on the porch and watched the boys play for most of these photos...
We were at Glenn's cabin for a weekend in Sept 2012.

Long Beach, WA

October 2012
We went to visit Troy's brother Eric, his wife Nina and their son Henry while they were vacationing at the World Mark in Long Beach. We also invited my friend Carolyn up to share our beach-side condo and visited our college friends Casey and Jeff and their son Mason. It was a fun weekend! Hope to do it again... Maybe next time...the Kite Festival!

Leavenworth, WA Weekend

October 2009
Cory & Jen invited us for a weekend in Leavenworth. Cory ran the marathon that Saturday...and fast too (3:27)! It was also Oktoberfest and the town was hoppin'. It was a great time...definitely looking forward to doing it again....

A little about Leavenworth:
In 1890, the original town was built on the Icicle Flats.
However, it wasn't until the end of the century that the town began to blossom with the arrival of the rail line--Great Northern Railway Company.
A sawmill and a healthy logging industry eventually fell apart when the Great Northern Railway Company pulled out of Leavenworth. For more than thirty years, Leavenworth lived on the brink of extinction.
In the early 1960's, in a last-chance effort to turn their precarious situation around, the leaders of the community decided to change Leavenworth’s appearance, hoping to bring tourism into the area. Using the beautiful backdrop of the surrounding Alpine hills to their advantage, the town agreed to remodel their hamlet in the form of a Bavarian village.
Besides the complete renovation of the downtown area, community members worked to begin a series of festivals. The Autumn Leaf Festival, Maifest, and the very popular Christmas Lighting Ceremony were the first of many attractions Leavenworth offered to passers-by.
The new plan worked. Ever since the change to a Bavarian motif, Leavenworth has become a pillar of the tourism industry in the Pacific Northwest. Today, close to two million tourists come to Leavenworth each year, each visitor finding their own individual love affair with the community.

Portland Marathon Wknd October 2007

Here are the few pictures that Troy & I took during the marathon weekend.

Cory, Jen, Bong and Alvin ran the Portland, OR Marathon October 7th, 2007. Troy was out with an injury and Bessie and I couldn't imagine running a marathon, so we were the cheering squad. :)

Pittock Mansion Portland, OR

On a visit to the Vancouver/Portland area, Troy, Carolyn and I visiting Pittock Mansion in Portland, OR. June/July 2005

"The Pittock Mansion was home to Portland pioneers Henry and Georgiana Pittock from 1914 to 1919. During the late 1800s and the early 1900s, their lives and work paralleled the growth of Portland from a small Northwest town site to a thriving city with a quarter million population. With its eclectic architectural design and richly decorated interior, including family artifacts, the Pittock Mansion stands today as a living memorial of this family's contributions to the blossoming of Portland and its people."
