07/15/2012 Leeds-Harrisburg Wildfire on June 23, 2012

While I was vacationing in Georgia I received a phone call informing me of a fire burning near my home and that people in the Harrisburg community were awaiting an evacuation order. Fortunately the order never came (my cats were safe and didn't need to leave with a neighbor). After returning I waited for a good day and took pictures of the aftermath. The fire came within about 1000' of the north end of our community. Last year we had a close fire on the south side so we should be safe from fire concerns for several years. Credit goes to the local ground crews who manned the lines and made judicious use of air drops of fire retardant, helicopter water drops dipped from Quail Creek Reservoir nearby and backfires removing fuels ahead of the fire. No lives were lost and property damage was minimal. Numerous deer and other wild creatures were seen running out of the affected area. This album has been completed and no more photos will be added.

This is by Vicky's house . The dry field between the house and the green trees. It burned down to her front door and she finally had to get out and leave her horse and chickens and pigeons behind. Luckily her neighbors (where it's green) stayed behind and poured water on the chicken and bird pens and kept the field where the horse was from catching fire. She was REALLY scared and Eddie was off working in Texas. He is home now and hopefully the rain will not create more problems. Sure glad your place and the cats were ok!, Donna
