Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument, Castle Rock, Washington
Most visits to Washington state involve a pilgrimage to this place where I spent so many months dealing with road construction, re-construction, maintenance and the salvage harvest of down, dead and dying timber. They were far from pleasant times in my career but I did gain a respect for the power of natural phenomena, nature's resilience and how insignificant the activities of man are in the total scheme of things. It is rewarding to see the changes that have occurred on the landscape since the disaster, most caused by natural processes with some aided by man in clearing and revegetating parts of the devastated area. I offer one piece of advice - always use a tripod for stability particularly in macro and telephoto situations. I would have achieved much better results had I done so. The unsteadiness of age is creeping up on me. This album has been completed and no more photos will be added.
