This is a new style as discussed by Dave ("saberbelt") on Rebel Legion and The Jedi Assembly forums. The wide belt slides through a keeper riveted to the back. The accent belt is functional and is pulled through the keeper at the back and then tightened in front. Included is a description of how I made the belt. Click on each thumbnail for the larger image and a description of the process. pulled through the keeper at the back and then tightened in front. Included is a description of how I made the belt. These are a few images as I opened the limited edition book for the first time. I had #781, signed by Trish Bigger. I decided it was a disappointment and sold it to another dedicated costumer who is more interested in Padme costumes.... I bought it in hopes of getting lots of detail on the Jedi costumes. While there are fabric swatches, there are only 2 sentences in the entire book with any information on the actual fabrics used. The only details on construction are what can be guessed at from the, admittedly, excellent photos. Most of my major questions went unanswered as the photos don't show enough. For the money, I would have thought there would be more details, since it is mostly serious costumers who will spend $350 on this book. I decided it made more sense for me just to have the $50 version

| | Caitriona (MKB) | - ComicCon 2004 Saturday
-
- Jul 24, 2004
-
The highlight of Saturday was Steve Sansweet's "Star Wars Extravaganza". It was in a hall that held 6700 people. As people were filing in an announcer kept reminding them to turn off cell phones, that photos weren't allowed, etc. My favorite "Con Moment" was when he added, "Please turn off your lightsabers during the video presentation". Ha! Lots of people had the electro-luminescent lightsaber blades that glow very brightly in the dark. Hence the request. But only at a Star Wars convention...!
They showed lots of great footage from the filming of Ep III. We saw long scenes of the fierce lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan and Anakin.
The VP for Marketing told us that the new DVD's of Ep IV-VI will have a 4th disc with content from the archives that "nobody has". It will have some featurettes, one of which will be the history of the lightsaber. It will have more character development and reveal some "secrets" about the characters.
Carrie Fischer was a guest. She answered questions about some of the extra content added for the DVD.
The 1st 20 Clone Wars cartoon series will come out on DVD but instead of being 5 minutes each they will have extra content making them 12 minutes each. This will take the story line right up to the beginning of Ep III. These will be released about Easter time 2005.
Celebration III will be 21-24 April, 2005 in Indianapolis.
The producer, Rick McCallum, came in from London to speak to this con. The surprise guest was Hayden Christianson. They showed film of him putting on the Vader costume. It actually gave me chills!
And during the Q&A session, a Rebel Legion member ("Danakin") who has made an Ep III Anakin costume and whose appearance is very similar to Hayden's, was the first to step up to the mike to ask a questions. Hayden did a bit of a doubletake and quipped, "That's a good look". He was asked how long it took to get into and whether it was hot. He said it took 4.5 hours, which amazed us as we have friends who wear Vader costume and it only takes them about a half hour. And, duh, it IS a very HOT costume.
Trailors for Ep III will be in theaters about November 2004.
Rick was asked about whether Mace Windu will have a role in EP III (well, Samuel L. has already said in interviews that he has a satisfyingly spectacular death). Rick McCallum said....and this was a huge plot twist for me!....."Mace is the pivotal point that starts to turn this lad" (meaning the point that starts to turn Anakin to the Dark Side). Hmmm......
And at the end of the presentation was what we all expected would happen.... Steve Sansweet revealed the title of Ep III to be Revenge of the Sith. The Tshirts went on sale immediately after the presenation.
Another highlight of Saturday was the Masquarade. LadySonnet entered her spectacular hand embroidered Amidala gown from Ep I. Julie and PadmeAmanda made wonderful hand stamped velvet handmaiden costumes. The Maquarade is actually a formal costume contest. As I said above, the crowd was really tough. They didn't actually "boo" but they did an equivalent thing. Our friends did win "Most Beautiful". I didn't get a photo, but someone else did:

Friday was rather a blur. It was Star Wars Day. I attended only one Panel which was an update on Fan Club activities. I took some photos of others in costume. I hung about the Rebel Legion booth. There are about 80,000 people in attendance and the air conditioning on the convention floor was not up to the job. So it was uncomfortably hot.
On Friday night I attended the 501st-Rebel Legion-FanForce dinner. There were about 60 people. Some of the actors attended along with some Lucas staff. There are about 80,000 people in attendance and the air conditioning on the convention floor was not up to the job. So it was uncomfortably hot.

DarthNoll, PadmeAmanda and I shared a very nice room at the Omni. This was a brand new hotel right across the street from the Convention center. Since DarthNoll had to get up on Thursday at 0400 to be at the Center by 0500, PadmeAmanda and I decided to go, too. This was an in-costume activity to provide interest for the TV stations filming at the Con prior to it's opening. No photos of that but others in our group saw us on the am news.
We worked there until about 0900. We went back to to the room to change into street clothes and meet the rest of the group for breakfast.
Than back to the hotel to change into our Harry Potter costumes. Got back to the Con about 1300. We never actually had everyone together but there were usually about 4-5 of us at any one time. We could hardly walk 10 feet but someone wanted to take a photo. However, I didn't get any.
Along with those in our group who are entered, I attended the panel on the Masquarade. My favorite quote from an experienced costumer about why she no longer enters: "The nausea [from nerves] isn't worth the crowd response". It's a very tough crowd, as we discovered later. It's actually a VERY RUDE crowd. They were rude even at the panel....at least some of the apparent "friends of" the panelist were so.
I had a good deal of fun attending the Lucas Fan Film Awards. My fav one the Audience Appreciation Award. That would be "Pink Five Stikes Back" be at the Center by 0500, PadmeAmanda and I decided to go, too. WED, JULY 21
A number of us from Seattle all travelled together on the same flight to San Diego. I was the only Rebel. All the rest were wearing their cool Garrison Titan (501st) T-shirts. I met a couple people in the departure lounge who were also bound for the Con.
They opened the pre-reg badge pick-up earlier than the publised 1600. So Amanda and I got our badges at about 1430.
We had a rather long wait to get into preview night. The hall was to have opened at 1730 but the line didn't start moving until 1830.
I was most excited to find that the actual costumes from LOTR-ROTK were on display. Most were from the final coronation/wedding scene. They were displayed on a stage so they were not at good eye level and were behind glass so the photos aren't great. a couple people in the departure lounge who were also bound for the Con.

The Museum is excellent. It rivals the Smithsonian's Air & Space museum.

A very few of us met at the home of Badger and LadySonnet. PadmeAmanda brought her Harry Potter Quidditch costume. Sonnet worked on a classic Princess Leia white gown. William took delivery on the long, old-Obi-Wan style Jedi costume I made for him. Mysfit didnt arrive to try on his new robe. We enjoyed looking at each others props and comparing notes. William has a Parks saber and a new belt also from Parks.
The hamsters, Hermione, Jinny, Ron, Fred and George, slept through it all. Spike, the social cat, helped keep the pattern pieces from escaping. Angel, the shy cat, hid under the bed the entire time.
Badger made nice (to my palate) bland salsa from wonderfully flavorful home grown tomatoes. We had the Ep II DVD playing on the TV. long, old-Obi-Wan style Jedi costume I made for him.
