2009 Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Show
Jan 17, 2009

The 2009 Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Show didn't have a model car contest this year. According to Donna Starbird this decision was made due to space limitations as the event organizers shared a large part of the convention center space with the Wichita Area New Car Dealers. We Slammers certainly hope that we are invited again in 2010 to restart the model contest for the Starbird Family. In the meantime, Rich and Ellis went down on Saturday and took a bunch of pictures at the show for all to enjoy.

2008 Darryl Starbird Rod & Custom Show and Model Contest
Geolocation
Jan 18, 2008

On January 18, 19, and 20, 2008, the 51st Annual Darryl Starbird Rod and Custom Show was held in Wichita, Kansas. The KC Slammers, for the second year in a row, were privileged to be invited by the Starbirds to organize and run the model car contest in conjunction with that event.
The January weather in South-Central Kansas was cold (in the 10's and 20's) but the Century II Convention Center was warm, full of fantastic cars (full-size and smaller scale), great people, and lots of neat things to do and see. The Texas Bikini Squad was there again this year and the crowd was entertained by the "Globe of Death" Motorcycle Stunt Show.
Darryl Starbird proved once again that he can still customize with the best of them as he used the event to premiere his newest creation "The Duseybird". Of course, he brought along some other great customs from his National Rod and Custom Hall of Fame and Museum in Afton, Oklahoma as well.
Elden Titus brought in his classic "Voodoo Spyder" - the custom car that brought him to the forefront of the custom car world and recognized as one of the top customizers in the nation!
The Slammers' great friends from the Kustom Kemps of America were there with President Jerry Titus and all of the office staff and officers representing this great organization. The KKOA has as its sole purpose to promote and preserve custom cars, leadsleds, and traditional rods. (The Slammers present the KKOA's Annual Model Kemp Spectacular on the last weekend in July each year in Salina, Kansas. See our photo album of that event here on this FOTKI site as well.)
So... hit that slideshow button and sit back, grab a drink of your choice, a bag of something to munch on, and enjoy the photos.
