World of Wheels Kansas City - 2011 - Feb 12, 2011
-
The annual World of Wheels Car Show was held again this year in Bartle Hall in Downtown Kansas City, Missouri. It was great show and it was HUGE! The producers occupied eery square foot of the main exhibition floor of the convention hall.
The display vehicles were grouped nicely with entire sections of the floor dedicated to motorcycles, rods, racing, Mustangs, Vettes, etc, and the customs and stocks were spread all over the place as eye candy.
Galpin Motors had their show custom "The Scythe" on display (you either loved this one or hated it).
Big Daddy Roth's sons were there with their new kustom (super nice guys - real down to earth). Like thier dad, Ed, they were out there hawking t-shirts, pinstriping paint, metalflake, books, and keepsakes. Big Daddy was smilin' on them from Kustom Heaven.
The World of Wheels has definitely turned the corner from the so-so shows of the past and has evolved into one of the best car shows in the country. The crowd was HUGE!!!!! - Album was created 1 year ago and modified 1 year ago

Greaserama 2011 - Sep 3, 2011
-
Each year here in KC, the guys and gals of Los Punk Rods put on a great car show called the Greaserama. Its specialty is alternative rods and kustoms - what some call "Rat Rods" (a term not used much anymore).
It's a two day festival of the unusual in cars, music, clothes, and lifestyles. There's more tatoos and piercings than you can shake a stick at!
The KC Slammers usually stage a model car display for the event but this year we took a break and several of us just went and enjoyed the sounds, people, colors, smells, and those great cars!
It's held at the old Boulevard Drive-In Theater in KC, Kansas on Mission Drive. The venue is perfect for the event and, on Saturday night, they even show "vintage" rodder movies on the theater screen.
This year the special guest was Butch Patrick, a.k.a. "Eddie" from the hit TV Show "The Munsters"! Butch is a little older now but he's a really nice guy!
Next year, on Labor Day Weekend, plan on spending at least a day on that weekend at the Greaserama. You'll have a ball ! - Album was created 5 months ago and modified 5 months ago

H.A.M.B. Old Time Drags - 8/21/10 - Aug 21, 2010
-
The H.A.M.B. Message Board group staged the "Old Time Drags" again at the strip outside of Asbury, Missouri, on yet another HOT day in August.
The day was great and Zimm, Rich, Carl, Larry, Diane, Lee (plus son and grandson), Bill B., Jerrald (plus Stacy), Jeff, and Ellis were there to see all the action on a great day. It was unbearably hot with the heat index right around 100 degrees. The wind laid in the middle of the afternoon and the sun beat down mercilessly all day. But, the cars kept running down the strip and we all had a blast. - Album was created 1 year 6 months ago and modified 1 year 6 months ago

H.A.M.B. Old Time Drag Races 2008 - Aug 23, 2008
-
Here we are, folks! Pictures of the H.A.M.B.-sponsored Old Time Drags held every year in Asbury, Missouri. Several KC Slammers took a road trip down that way on a warm August 23rd Saturday and spent the afternoon checkin' out the cars and watchin' the drags. On the way home we stopped in Pittsburg, KS, at Chicken Annie's for some pan-fried chicken. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday, huh?
Enjoy the pictures - We hope they provide plenty of model building inspiration and ideas! - Album was created 3 years 6 months ago and modified 3 years 6 months ago

H.A.M.B. Old Time Drag Races - Aug 25, 2007
-
Imagine, if you will, that it’s Aug 25th, 1957. You and a few of your fellow hot rod hoodlums (gearheads in today’s terms) are standing in the pits of a small, very much nondescript drag strip out in the middle of nowhere. As you look around you see nothing but cornfields in the distance. But in closer view is an absolute beautiful panorama of “A” bones, “T”s, Willys and Henry J coupes, front engined purpose built dragsters, and even some of those resemble relics from the late 40’s early 50’s. As you and your buddies from the K.C. Slammers Model Car Club, wander through the pits looking for reference material for that next great model build, there is a scurry of activity, and you are constantly being bombarded by the sounds of hopped up, 4 bangers, inline 6’s, lots of flathead V-8, compliments of our dear friend H.F. who blessed us with those starting in 1932, as well as an occasional “bowtie”, “ Hemi”, Olds, or Buick, model of the V-8 being brought to life in preparation for it’s ensuing battle against the clocks and the opponent in the other lane of this narrow two lane strip of concrete and blacktop. As you continue to look around in total awe your head starts to clear and you begin to fully realize that it’s not 1957, but 2007, and yes, you are standing in the situation previously described. It’s a hot August Saturday night and you just happen to be wandering the pits of MOKAN dragstrip. This strip was founded in 1962,and is located between Ausbury, MO. and Pittsburg, KS, on Missouri Highway 171. It has been in continuous operation ever since and is also the home of the H.A.M.B. drags. You are about to experience photos of the 6th running of the vintage drags, which are sponsored by the H.A.M.B. forum members, and the Jalopy Journal website ( www.jalopyjournal.com ). This forum is dedicated to “Spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and kustoms to hoodlums worldwide.” So sit back, relax, and take a trip down memory lane with us. Many thanks to the Jalopy Journal website and the H.A.M.B. forum members for making this trip possible. CHEERS !!!! And see you again in ’08. - Album was created 4 years 6 months ago and modified 4 years 6 months ago

KC World of Wheels - Feb 13, 2010
-
The Kansas City World of Wheels Car Show was held at Bartle Hall in Kansas City, MO. This year the show expanded to include the entire floor area of the Hall and it was HUGE! Great vendors and beautiful cars of the highest quality. "The Fonz" Henry Winkler was there signing autographs to bring back old memories. If anyone trys to tell you that customs and car shows are dying, they needed to see this year's World of Wheels here in Kansas City. A great time was had by the entire crowd.
A very good KC Slammers' friend was there as well - Jimmy Flintstone was there for the modelers with a ton of his resins and other goodies.
Our buddies from the Punk Rods were there in force with their great cars. It's always a pleasure to see Todd and the crew!
Enjoy the pictures! - Album was created 2 years ago and modified 2 years ago

Kansas City World of Wheels 2009 - Feb 28, 2009
-
A great show this year!
Plenty of rods, customs, classics, trucks, and bikes.
Gene Winfield was there pressin' flesh and being the gentleman that he always is! Fritz had his Outlaw Clone and a great bike set up in a special Big Daddy Roth Tribute Exhibit. The new T-Bird Custom "The Thunderflite" came in from California. Jimmy Flintstone was there with his crew sellin' those great resin goodies of his and lots of other stuff as well.
KC woke up Saturday the 28th to a 7" snowfall that came overnight but it didn't seem to hold off the car fans any at all. - Album was created 3 years ago and modified 3 years ago

2009 Starbird Museum Hall of Fame Induction and Car Show - May 11, 2009
-
Rich Newberry, a member of the KC Slammers, made the trip down to Darryl Starbird's National Custom and Hot Rod Hall of Fame and Museum. He had the opportunity to attend the annual Hall of Fame Induction, car show, and spent a lot of time at the museum. He also got to go to the cookout at the Starbird Home on the grounds. Lots of big names in the customizing world were there! Our friend, Jerry Titus, received the LIfetime Achievement Award for his contributions on perpetuating rods and customs through the KKOA. Jerry is the president of the Kustom Kemps of America.
Lots of neat pictures to enjoy in this album! - Album was created 2 years 7 months ago and modified 2 years 7 months ago

LaBenite Park Car Show, Sugar Creek, Missouri - Oct 11, 2008
-
I almost missed this show! By the time this webmaster got there, a lot of the cars had already left. But... here's 51 neat pix of the cars that I COULD get pictures of. It was held on the banks of the Missouri River in a neat little public riverside park just south of Liberty, Missouri. A beautiful Autumn day with temps right around 80 degrees! Hope to catch it next year. This was the first year for this show and it had over 100 entries! - Album was created 3 years 4 months ago and modified 3 years 4 months ago
