The Eagles Lodge in Overland Park, KS, held a model contest on Sunday, March 9, 2008. There were 134 entries in all. Our own KC Slammer Orbie Hardister was the prime organizer of the event. The vendors had some great deals and a good selection. The Eagle's Lodge trophies were impressive.

It was the 24th Annual Event this year. Another great show/contest/vendor sales as it is every year. This show is the first event of the model contest season and it's always a wonderful chnace to visit with modeling buddies and acquaintances.
Congrats go out to the Slammers that placed in the judging categories. The club had an excellent turnout of members that made the 3+ hour roadtrip north.
The contest is actually held in the suburb of Papillion. Nice venue to be at! 4 stars from the KC Slammers!

Halloween weekend was the time for the KC Slammer's modelin' buddies over at the Great Plains IPMS Club to have their annual model contest and vendor fair in south Kansas City. They're a great club and always stage an equally great autumn show.

The show, like most general IPMS contests, had a decided lean toward non-automotive subjects, but the Great Plains bunch goes out of their way to make the car modelers feel welcome!

We started the album out though with an absolutely GREAT figure whose presence summed up the entire Halloween weekend timing for the contest!

Several of the Slammers (Phil, Steve, Bill B., Alyn, Chris, Cary, and Ellis) headed north on Saturday, Oct. 10, on a beautiful autumn day to attend this annual model car event.

The contest is staged by several of the major area vendors and also includes a major model competition with some serious trophies to be had.  Trophy winners from our club this year were Bill Barker, Steve Barnes, Alyn Loya, and Chris Lewis.

The event is unusal in the sense that is is put on by the vendors themselves.  As such, the vendors tables are full and center-stage with the model contest over to one side of the venue.  If you are seriously looking for someplace to lay down your cash, this is the show to be at!

A big Slammer "Thanks" go out to the great guys that stage this event every year.  Can't wait for NEXT October!!!

Sunday, February 28 found the KC Slammers heading north to Papillion (burb of Omaha), Nebraska to attend the Drastic Plastics NNL. Bob Black and the guys up that way always out on a great show with a bunch of top-notch vendors.

It's a great show to kick off the contest and show year and we appreciate all Bob and the gang do to support quality modeling! Thanks!

The Second Annual NNL Midwest was held in St. Joseph, Missouri, on a beautiful autumn day. Here are 181 pictures of the event.

GSL XXIII was held April 28-May 1, 2011 at the Sheraton City Centre in Salt Lake City, UT. Over 350 models were presented by 78 contestants, and kit designer Tom Daniel was on hand to talk about his days designing kits for Monogram. An arrray of seminars, a trip to the International Model Car Builders' Museum, and a Trade Show were also available to those who attended this every-other-year contest.

On Sunday, February 22, Bob Black and the Drastic Plastics Internet-based Model Club, staged the first year of the NNL format for this event. The change was well-received. The vendors had great modelin' goodies for us all to buy.

The Drastic Plastics Club also gave out a special award this year to"The Model That Elden Titus Would Have Liked" in tribute to customizing great Elden Titus who passed away in October, 2008.

Two KC Slammers, Bill Barker and Allen Smerchek, went to the 17th International GSL in Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 23-25. They had a blast and here are 467 pictures to prove it. They both say though that the greatest treat, beyond seeing all the great models, was getting to meet and greet all their fellow modelers from around the country and world.

The event is only held every other year so the next one is set for April, 2011. Maybe these pics will whet your appetite top make the trip then!
